Married on 1.4.18 - looking to send in paperwork next week. Wondering about name changes. I know I should apply with whatever name is on my passport but what happens when I receive my COPR? I know those names need to match. Do I change my name and apply for new passport with married name? Do I do that from my home country (USA)? Im already living in Canada - how are you supposed to do that when you cant leave the country?

Hi guys,

I submitted a PR and OWP application for inland December 4th, received December 6th. No AOR yet.

However, I've been reading through this forum and I noticed that you have to pay $255 for the OWP and I completely missed that! I only paid the $100. I was wondering if there is any way to pay the rest before the application gets returned to me for incomplete funds. I tried linking the OWP account, but no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I made the same mistake. I went ahead and paid the other fee online within a couple weeks of my original application. I even sent a copy of my receipt to CIC and asked them to update my application. I have read that in some instances CIC used monies from one's PR application to cover the difference for the OWP, but that did not happen in my case. Despite paying the fee online, they sent my OWP application back to me and asked for proof that I paid the fee. So, I printed out the receipt again and mailed it all back to Vegreville. Frustrating. It is pretty clear that whichever internal CIC group is processing the OWP applications has no visibility into the payment systems and can only rely on a printed out receipt.

I don't know how long this mistake will delay my application. Some people on the forum have said it essentially moves you back to square one. If someone with firsthand experience could let us know the number of weeks from resubmission to OWR receipt that would be helpful. Thanks!

is there another way to get any kind of work permit in the meantime?
Not sure, but surely your best bet would be to let the sponsorship app carry on processing to get the OWP? Then if you do decide to leave to go to Australia cancel it then. At least morally dishonest if you are definitely leaving, not sure of the legalities, maybe more senior forum member can advise.

@Dreamerforever - I would highly recommend calling CIC to ask their input. Your OWP will more than likely be returned to you by mail. We had the same situation and it caused a 2 month delay for us. We submitted OWP with PR on Sep 5, AOR Oct 31 and OWP returned Nov 6. We resubmitted asap and it was received according to Canada Post on Nov 15. Haven't hear anything since....

Nothing is definite for us these days, but we just need to have my husband working for now so we can see what the future holds for us. I think you are right to leave the app processing and get him work through the OWP once approved. Thanks for your input!

even if you try to cancel the app before last stage, i think you can get your RPRF refunded.

I know it can be tough when in limbo, other thing to consider is if you cancel the sponsorship app now your husband will most likely have no status at all.

Apparently. most of the applicants experienced the same confusion, and I am no exception.

Two days after I sent my sponsorship and OWP application, I noticed the lack of payment. As soon as I noticed I only paid the fee of open work permit holder and did not pay work permit fee, I made it up online and saved the digital receipt. Then I uploaded the receipt to IRCC via IRCC Web Form. In the message I mentioned:

CIC receipt number
Canada Post tracking number
Name
Date of Birth
Address
Type of Application: Application for spouses or common-law partners (currently living in Canada) applying under the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class

Then 5 days later, IRCC email back saying they have forwarded the information I provided to the responsible department. They will contact me if they require further information.

I sent my application on 11/15 2017, AOR received on 01/05/2018.

So I strongly suggest you use IRCC Web From to upload your receipt immediately. Good luck.

Yes, I'd have to apply for restoration of status I think? His TRV expired in Dec. Would he be eligible to apply for that if we did cancel the PR?

AOR takes approx 2 months these days so I would give it a bit more time before calling. Another week of so

The police certificates will be asked from her before she receives her OWP but isn't necessary for the OWP since they use it for your PR application. Both police certificates and medical aren't needed for the open work permit.
thanks...as a pharmacist (health field), will she be restricted from working as a pharmacist (ie, there will be a condition placed not allowing her to work in health field) without a medical exam having been done?

Seems like it coudl be that way for an OWP in general, but not sure in a spousal PR application situation.
