Does your passport have a valid visa in it?
If you send a passport for renewal that has a valid visa, tell us on the application form that you want the original passport returned to you and that you still need that visa. If you don’t, the visa could be damaged when the previous passport is cancelled.
Fyi
@Cutie101 i believe those instructions are for someone who has a Canadian passport. @bbccanada’s case is for a Ghanaian passport. I would renew in Ghana, but not hand in my current passport and also ask them not to cancel the old one if that is possible. If they can’t reassure you that can’t leave the old one valid, then you may need to play it safe and not renew until she lands.

Hello house am just here to say my final pleasantries, My husband landed on Thursday ,he said the whole process was roughly 10 mins n it was smooth he just showed the papers,he just asked three questions ,and they welcomed him to Canada.once again God bless you All am out✌✌✌✌✌✌✌

@waiting TO, thanks you were right this is Ghana passport not Canadian passport. My wife was on her way to renew her passport because I was thinking that by the time they request for her passport she would have less than six months to the expiry date but we actual got the passport request immediately with 15 days to send so I told her to stop the renewal because we do not know if we could get the new passport within the 15 days time frame we were given. I think I will take your advice to let her land than renew it when it expires in June 2018 to avoid any issue. Thanks for your feed back.

I sent you an inbox message @bbccanada

Good evening everyone, Please apart from the webform can someone send me the Accra visa office email. I need to contact them.
Thank you.

So, house members, I guess My MP is still doing or getting updates until my file is finalized.

  • We got PPR on the 24th, asked to submit medical, police clearance and updated forms withing 15 days.
  • Obtained permission to submit clearance late (23 days later)
  • Go permission to submit passport to country of residence rather than AVO. AVO agreed, so now waiting for final approval then we can submit passport

Now the interesting bits:

Got an email from the MP today and it tells a lot more than I saw on my GCMS notes and mycic:
Dear XXXXX
This is the response of IRCC on our request received yesterday:

`` We can provide you with the following details about the status of your constituent’s Application to sponsor a spouse living outside Canada:

• The application was received at the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga (CPC-M), Ontario, on October 11, 2016.

• The initial assessment to ensure your constituent meets the eligibility criteria and that the application is complete was finalized on November 4, 2016. - Nov 4, 2017 was showing up "Due Date" on my GCMS notes for medical and background and I didn't understand what it was about since my medical was expected to expire in September according to them. Now I know it's exactly 1 year from the first eligibility assessment.

• The assessment for the spouse is still in process at the Canadian visa office in Accra, Ghana .

• The eligibility requirements assessment has been finalized on October 24, 2017. - Mycic says reviewing even today

• The medical examination results are on file and valid until November 2, 2018 for your constituent’s spouse. - (Re-medical was done on October 30th)

• The criminality verifications are currently valid. - i hope valid means passed/complete

• The security verifications are currently valid. - i hope valid means passed/complete

• Processing times indicated on our website are approximate, and can vary with each individual case.

My GCMS note request has been held up since Sep 18th. They finally acknowledged my inquiry last week stating I'm in "priority for completion." Still, nothing in my inbox.

Update Day 34 since PPR:

Overall Status: Request for Passport, re-medical and police clearance completed as of Day 23 (Nov 14)

Good day all, my visa will be expiring on the 7th of December. Sent in my passport on the 21st of November and up till now Accra hasn't sent me pick up mail. Any need to worry?

Keep messaging them and giving them the details upfront, no long stories so someone doesn't toss your email aside. You are already on a slippery slope and if you are in Nigeria you need to factor in the time for DHL to pick and return your passport which AVO wouldn't take any blame for. You might also want to book your ticket now (preferably one that leaves at night in case your passport is due to come in that day) and pay for coverage to cancel it for a full refund. You don't want to get your passport and because the time frame is narrow you have to pay an outrageous amount for the ticket.

My dear I did send them a message on Saturday morning, no reply as usual just the auto response. If I didn't hear anything by 12 pm today I 'll surely send another and another one by 6 pm. I booked my ticket already and I 'll be flying from lagos, though I stay at port harcourt. Is frustrating how AVO sees the time frame requires to make the trip and still keep hold of the passport like everything is okay. I tire o.
