How long does it normally take to receive an answer from CIC after submitting the spouse sponsorship

Ok... this might be a dumb question... The email that states us to "link the application" with the Applicant Number and the UCI, is that the AOR? Does that mean that the first 'step' is approved and we'll proceed with the other form requirements when we are asked to (ie. Schedule A, Medical Check, etc)?

Does that also give the implied status? (Reading all these forum threads are confusing me)
There is no dumb question here as we have tons of things to take care of and lots of them are so confusing!

Yes, the first letter that you received from CIC gave Applicant number and the UCI is the 1st AOR. It also says that they are start processing your application. Everything will be clearer after you link your application to online account. Have you done it yet? Do you need more instruction?

What visa is he applying for??
We are applying for the inland Spouse Sponsorship (Permanent Residency with OWP)... We got an applicant # and UCI. We were unable to link the application to our online account though, it kept saying that there was no application found.

From what I gather online, it seems to be a common glitch?

@ Jelvuk: You are right at some point.
@ vhst: Sorry as I did not explain clearly. The 1st AOR will be received by the sponsor, not the principle applicant. From my experience and a few people on here, our sponsors received the 1st AOR after 1 or 2 weeks since the principle applicant got the 1st email from CIC to get Application number and her/ his UCI:
- Both sponsor and principle applicant receive Applicant number and UCI. The applicant number is the same but the UCI is different.
- Principle applicant can link her/ his application to their online account on MyCIC:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/account.asp
- While the sponsor can link the application on this site:
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/security.do

===> I just want to comment more for this instruction:
- For (8): It is true that if you DON'T FILL CITY AND COUNTRY OF BIRTH, it works! How amazing it is!!! (#%*)
- But for (12): It depends on your situation.

For example:
- "Apply for permanent resident as a spouse or common-law partner in Canada" means your sponsor is Canadian.
- "Spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker" means your sponsor is actually a foreigner and he/she works here as a skilled worker.
---> It is very different from each other.

*** Don't forget to use Internet Explorer to fill the forms or link account to avoid errors from the system :(

That's it, you will be able to link your application to your online account! Wish you all best of luck!

Yeah, we tried those steps and reading up on the issue... We maxed out out 5 attempts in 24hours, we reported a Technical Issue but we'll try again tonight! Thank you!!! I'll keep you all posted when/of we find a solution.

Although, for step 5, we're actually going through the Spouse Sponsorship right now, not the Open Work permit. And I (sponsor) have not received any email yet... I guess we just have to stay patient!

Yes, you have to be patient as this is just the first step. I passed lots of steps but I still have lots of things to do. Don't be panic, I believe that we all will have PR at the end!

If your husband or wife has applied in the past for another type of visa then try inputting single in marital status.

I received my (sponsor) email today with my UCI & Application Number and it's doing the same, we still are unable to link the app.

Also, I don't know if it matters, but the instructions that you gave me (below) are for the Temporary residence. The Spouse Sponsorship is for the Permanent Residency (Family Sponsorship), is that correct ?

Have you tried these steps?

Hi there, it was my mistake, I'm so sorry for that, please follow these instructions:
(I did read again the content of the threads to make sure that I send you a right thing! Best of luck guys!)

First, you have to make sure that you link your application on a right web site:
- Principle applicant can link her/ his application to their online account on MyCIC:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/account.asp
- Sponsor can link the application on this site:
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/security.do

For the steps to link Principle applicant application on MyCIC, please follow this topic:
https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/linking-application-issue.485928/

After you created GCKey account to link Principle applicant application, keep using that account to link Open work permit application on MyCIC (If you also applied it when you applied for PR).

For the steps to link Open work permit application on MyCIC, please follow this step:
(Yes, I'm sorry as I dropped you the instruction to link Open work permit only)

Yes, The Spouse Sponsorship is for the Permanent Residency (Family Sponsorship). But I don't remember if you should choose this option when you link your account or not. If we chose the wrong option, the system cannot find our application. Anyway, I could link my application when I followed the steps from the 2 threads that I shared to you in the previous comment. I hope it will help you to link your account successfully.

One more thing, Sponsor link account actually is not really important as it just shows you what CIC sent you.
But Applicant link account is important as you will receive all the requests and instruction letters for the next steps through that account.
Stay calm ok? Most of people here included me spent days to figure out how to link application to online account, so you can do it, just be patient.
