May I ask for your opinion on my case. The initial entry date on my COPR is incorrect. But the rest of my family's initial entry date is ok. But on October 11, I will have the required physical presence regardless of the mistake on my COPR.

Do you think I should apply for a correction first? Or just let it be and just attach a letter explaining their mistake? I believe it will take 6 months to correct it. I did not bother correcting it after we landed because I have a temporary worker status on my initial entry date and the law before, doesn't count the stay as temp workers anyways. Thanks in advance!

  • Apply for citizenship first
  • Start collecting some documents to prove that you landed the day you landed.
What was the margin of error in your CoPR?

What was the margin of error in your CoPR?
10 months. But during that time, I was a temporary worker. They recorded as initial landing date, the day I went back from a conference that I attended out of the country. Thanks!

Let me get this right:
  • You landed as a temporary worker
  • Then you became a PR while in Canada
  • Then you left Canada for a conference
  • When you came back, the date of the entry was marked as day of landing?
Did I get this right?

Yes! That is absolutely the case. At one point when I was a temporary worker, I was sent to Las Vegas for a conference. Not even a week-long conference. Then when I came back, they recorded that as my initial landing on my COPR.

Thanks!

I am glad you asked this question! Please read following link very carefully and let me know what you think, then we can work it out...

Me again :) I didn't land on that date. I'm still a temp worker that time, and that was 2013. It's just that when I received my COPR last 2015, the initial entry date was wrong. When we completed our landing process, I wasn't able to have this corrected at the border.

i have a question regarding the date.
i became a PR on SEP 15 2013 (around 2 am) however, the officer wrote on my COPR “became P.R. on SEP 14, 2013” and she signed on my COPR and wrote the data of SEP 14, 2013. However, I wrote “SEP 15, 2013” beside my signature. I thought that she made a mistake on my COPR because technically it was SEP 15.

on my PR card also presents I became P.R on SEP 14.

Then, Officially, I bacme PR on SEP 14, 2013?
Is it going to matter for citizenship?

Can you provide me these dates:
  • The date your PR application was approved
  • The date you finished landing formalities
  • The date of landing shown on your PR card

This happens during the early hours of the day! When you apply for citizenship, keep 15 days of buffer residency, so that a minor error does not prolong the processing time...

I would be okay with the physical presence requirement because I came to Canada in 2006 with a valid study permit.

What date should I put in question 6A "When did you become a permanent resident of Canada?" on the application?
"September 14, 2013" OR "September 15, 2013" ?

I am going to put "Sep 14, 2013" because it says Sep 14, 2013 on my PRC.
I will be okay with this, right?

  • The date you finished landing formalities - March 2015
  • The date of landing shown on your PR card - March 2015
Come Oct 11, you will have :
  • approximately 2.5 years as PR credit (Residency after March 2015)
  • approximately .66 years as Pre PR credit.
Total of approximately 3.16 years of residency, you might well be eligible for citizenship. Please create a Physical presence Calculator on 10/11 and enter landing day as March 2015 as shown in PR card. The date shown on CoPR is handwritten(I think) and is prone to error...
