my suggested dataset is now live on the government's open data website:

CBSA immigration security screening timeline statistics

http://open.canada.ca/en/suggested-datasets/cbsa-immigration-security-screening-timeline-statistics

http://ouvert.canada.ca/fr/suggested-datasets/statistiques-delais-filtrage-securite-a-limmigration-lasfc

Please thumbs up and leave comments to persuade CBSA to make the data public.

"The suggested dataset works through a system of voting. The more votes a dataset receives, the more it shows that there’s a demand for this data. Comments are a good way to show that there is demand as well. This feedback is forwarded to the department who will let action further.

Both CBSA and IRCC are aware of this suggested dataset now and may also track its popularity. "

In terms of the security clearance, we do play a role with respect to assessing the security-related considerations of any individuals who would potentially come to Canada as permanent residents. I'd have to get back to the committee, but I don't think we have a specific service standard for how quickly we do the security clearance. In part it depends on the complexity of each individual we look at.

Thanks for your work legalfalcon. I have a question. In some cases, CSIS or IRCC contact foreign governments to request further information regarding some applicants. But I assume that some foreign governments (ie Middle Eastern) take a very long time to reply to these requests or even never respond. Do you have any information about this? Thanks

@strength2, thank you for all your help so far!

Could I ask you something about CSIS, I asked for ATIP from CSIS online and received a reply from them this morning. Their letter states:

"A record search for the requested information was completed on the basis of the information provided by you and we were unable to locate any record relevant to your request"

I am now totally confused. Do they mean they never received a request to do checks on my file or did I not give them enough information to proceed? On the online ATIP request, I have attached a copy of my passport, current work permit as well as a utility bill off the previous month.

I would really appreciate your valuable input in this! Thanks!!

You didn't have to provide passport, work permit, etc. How many people are in the application package? Did you make separate request for each applicants? Who is the main applicant? Who do you think is the person under background check? What does your myCIC account show in front of background check?

I only provided my UCI number and Express Entry Application No in the CSIS ATIP form. I got a CD from CSIS which had a pdf stating my security screening start and completion date.

There are 4 people in the application: myself, my wife and 2 kids. I did not make a separate request for all of us, only for me (the main applicant). I think it is me that are under background check. CPC Ottawa replied this morning also via email, confirming that my application is under additional verifications and they can't tell me when it will be finalized. In my GCMS notes, there is no sign of security screening. Only information redacted under s16(1)(c) and s15(1). MyCIC shows "We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information" and the final decision shows "Your application is in progress..."

Thank you so much for your help!!!

Hi Sam,

I also included my UCI number and Application number. These details show on the letter they have sent me. I thought maybe I didn't include enough information. Did you ask under the Privacy Act or Access to information? Maybe this is where I went wrong?

Did you make it clear you want CSIS status for yourself? I saw another case they told him no CSIS his wife was the main applicant he sent a clear enquiry again and got a normal CSIS status letter
