Less than 3 weeks left till Canada Day the Government vacation. Folks do you think it's still realistic to see C-6 approved by July 1st?
As far as I see, yes, it's possible. The Senate's amendments should be discussed today or sometime this week do not require lengthy debates (since the core of the bill was not affected); based on other amended bills that have been passed within recent years, the Senate should not require more than 5 days to make the corrections and accept the amendments. The age (60) factor should not be a major issue in the Senate. They were more passionate about the "special" under-18 rights to apply amendment which HoC seem to have accepted. So, I don't see why there would any delays, as it very obvious that people have been working behind the scene (slowly but surely) to get the bill passed.

The worst part of bill C-24 was that it is easier to lose your citizenship than your PR status. The intent to reside and the terrorist clauses really weakened Canadian citizenship. According to CIC:
Losing your permanent resident status
You don’t lose your permanent resident status when your PR card expires. You can only lose your status if you go through an official process.

You can lose your permanent resident status if:
  • an adjudicator determines you are no longer a permanent resident after an inquiry or PRTD appeal;
  • you voluntarily renounce your permanent resident status;
  • a removal order is made against you and comes into force; or
  • you become a Canadian citizen.
Even if you don't meet the residency obligation, you are still a PR until an official decision is made on your status.
What if someone has not completed number of days however have not renewed PR card and would like to travel? Will they denied while coming back to Canada?

Are they gonna work from 11AM to 12:30AM today? That's weird.
“I’d like to thank the Senate for their hard work and dedication in reviewing Bill C-6 to make it even stronger and for providing an example of productive collaboration on strengthening important legislation. The Government remains deeply committed to the timely passage of this significant Bill.

“On May 3rd, the Senate returned Bill C-6 to the House of Commons for further consideration after adopting three amendments.

“The Government supports the Senate amendment, with modifications, to improve the current citizenship revocation decision-making process so that the Federal Court becomes the decision-maker in most cases. This amendment recognizes the Government’s commitment to enhancing the citizenship revocation process to strengthen procedural fairness, while ensuring that the integrity of our citizenship program is maintained.

“The Government also supports the amendment to make it easier for children to obtain citizenship without a Canadian parent and has made changes to clarify who can apply for citizenship on behalf of the child.

“The Government does not support the amendment to increase the upper age for citizenship language and knowledge requirements from 54 years to 59 years, as this is not in line with Bill C-6’s intent to make it easier for eligible immigrants, including both younger and older eligible immigrants, to obtain citizenship.

“The Government is also rejecting the amendment that would have all individuals who committed fraud retain permanent resident status as an outcome, regardless of what stage in the citizenship process the fraud was committed at, thereby not rewarding the fraud with status that should not have been received in the first place.”

Hello Joshua, when you say it is possible do you mean that the actual changes are effective 1st July, which means we can apply for citizenship under the new policy?
