Is the MR from the date of file transfer or from the time of lodging of application?
hello, my friend's timeline, the date was from AOR to MR. not sure when he receive the file transfer, but told me waited for 6 to 7 months before receiving the MR from AOR date.

What is MR? And would PPR involve sending the actual passport? I would have thought it would just be a photo copy since Aussies can stay for a few months without a visa.

Not a lot of people on this forum seem to come through the Sydney VO so it's not easy to guess accurately at timelines. Most people around the region have their applications processed in Ottawa (very quickly it seems) When we went to the visa office in Sydney, we were told it would take around 4 months, but we have had no communication since November. On the website, the processing time is 9 months, so I guess we don't have a right to be impatient yet. But it still stinks to have your life on hold.
MR means Medical Request. What visa are you applying? are you outland or inland?

Hi everyone,

Please tell me I am not the only person who is more than a little confused by this whole process? My partner (the lovely Canadian) applied to sponsor me (the handsome Australian) 13 October 2016. It was my understanding that if we were applying from Australia that this was an Outland application and would be dealt with through the Sydney office, and would be expected to take 9-10 months. Now I'm seeing applications that were sent to the Ottawa office instead, and were processed in about 4 months?! I did all my medical and background checks upfront, but for some reason MyCIC says they're doing my background check, yet my ECAS says they've received my medical, and nothing more. How EXACTLY do these applications progress? Is the background check the last thing before they request my passport? Could they possibly be more vague? Did anyone on here apply back in October, and have you been approved yet?

I don't mean to sound selfish by asking all these questions, it has simply been a very stressful journey with the complete lack of information.

If anyone gets approved and plans on making Vancouver their forever home, I vote we all catch up at "Moose's Down Under Bar" for a beer in the coming months.

Are you sure the background check is happening now? MyCIC looks really confusing, in that it says something like "your application is in process. The next step is a background check". If it is in process, I've heard it can take a couple of days to a couple of months. Nevertheless, that's the next step before decision made and the end to this sordid, disheartening process.

We are in Toronto so couldn't meet up in a moose Bar 8)

Hi there, my family and I are currently living in Perth. We're all U.S/Aus dual citizens and hubby is also Canadian. He sponsored us and has a job lined up already. We applied in November as an outland application under the Family Sponsorship visa and just got our visa approval last week. We mailed our application package to Mississauga, Ontario (I think that's where it went) per application instructions and then once he was approved as a Sponsor our application got transferred to the Ottawa office and it went pretty quickly. I had to just mail copies of our passports to Sydney for the final step in the process. Hope that helps. Yes, it was all quite confusing and we're complicated by our multiple passports. I'm still not sure if we were processed as Americans or Australians, or if it even matters :) Good luck, hope you get some good news soon. Unfortunately, we'll be on the opposite coast in Canada too.

Hi,
We applied from Australia, I'm an Australian / Canadian dual citizen and my common law is an Italian citizen & Australian PR. After sponsorship was approved our application was sent to Ottawa. I don't think there is any particular reason why some are Ottawa and some are Aus. I guess to take the load of the particular processing offices. Our background check was the last thing to be done. We too applied in October. We got our PPR just last Friday and requested to send to Sydney. However we are in Italy and after a bit of back and forth and no help at all from the Sydney office we were able to transfer the request to Italy. Hope to land in the east coast in the next few weeks.

how long has your background check been in process for? This is the last step before the ask for passport ect. So i'de say you're almost there.

The background check has been "in process" for several weeks now, Emily12. I rather expected it to be a pretty straight forward application considering I'm Australian and lived in Canada for 3 years prior to applying for PR. Maybe I'm being impatient. I mean, they do state that it could take 9-10 months for the whole thing to be processed.

Do they approve PR applications day-to-day, or is it done weekly?

I have read in the past that they are usually granted in batches however i haven't seen any proof of that lately. Everything seems a little random. I had a look at the September spreadsheet and saw there was one person going through Syd and they were processed in Mid Jan. I couldn't see anyone on the Aug and any others in the Oct going through Syd. I really think you'll get your PPR very soon. Have a dig around the forums and see if you can find anyone else in the Syd office so you have something to compare.

They're right - there isn't really a clear process as to which VO it will go to. I (Sponsor) just got approved to bring my Aussie husband over via outland process and they didn't indicate which VO it would go to. Just simply that I was approved to sponsor. My ECAS under sponsor had said "decision made" for about 3-4 business days before I got my SA email. Since then, it hasn't updated to add the information in that I was approved. The Resident side of my ECAS login still just says "application received" and it's been 4 business days since I got my SA.

I hope whichever VO we get, it will go quickly - I'm with you, I'm impatient and would like to get it all sorted as my husband is still in Tassie and I'm here in Canada.

I hope we can all keep each other in the loop because I'm wondering if the Dec 15th CIC changes have had any affect on the processing and like someone else has mentioned, the spreadsheets within the past few months usually only have 1, if any, with the Aus VO.

Given they only aim to get 80% of applications approved in 12 months, I'd expect to not hear anything for periods of 3 - 6 months. I'll admit to being eager to find out what exactly they are doing in terms of my application, I can't feel frustrated as we're not even half way through the publisised time frame for processing (we submitted ours on 31st Dec, but only started processing in Sydney on about the 23rd Feb).

I look forward to hearing how other forum members applications are proceeding.

Mr Moose: when you got SA, did CIC include in your SA letter that they were sending off your app to the Sydney VO? Also, did you receive any A0R2?
