Bisexual Refugee sponsor opposite gender

Hi,

My friend came into canada a few years back as a refugee with claim of bisexuality (he actually is) his hearing was rejected the first time and approved after a 2nd trial, after 2-3 years of waiting he finally got his PR this year in May.

He started dating the opposite gender and they got serious in 2024 but this person lost her status as a student mid 2025, was on maintained status and recently got rejected.

He planned to sponsor her prior to her inland application refusal and already proposed two months ago.

Are there any complications with the spousal sponsorship? We assume there shouldn’t be any scrutiny if a bisexual person goes for both genders? There is concrete proof the relationship is genuine but there’s also fears of refugee file being reopened especially when the claim was rejected the 1st time.

When did he start dating his partner, when did he get his first refusal and when did he apply for RAD? Did he declare his relationship and when? Has been ever lived with this partner and if so when and for how long? There are multiple red flags regarding this situation. There could be concerns that the asylum claimant may not truly be bisexual and whether they properly declared their relationshio and whether this relationship is primarily driven by immigration given no action was taken until the partner had exhausted their own PR options and even waited for their dummy extension to get refused or at least a year after they filed a dummy relationship before they attempted to add the partner too their application or sponsor them.

The woman would have tried to restore her status and attempted to become a visitor. It is unclear if she even attended school for a full-time semester. I don’t see a pathway for her to try and remain in Canada especially if not married or common law already. Their relationship became serious when she left school which is a red flag for IRCC. I guess she can try to remain in Canada but I would only apply Outland because she has already spent almost 1.5 years without being able to regularize her status in Canada to a visitor. Very tough to comment on the potential red flags on his end when it comes to his asylum claim and RAD. Although you don’t have to inform IRCC about a chance in a relationship until you are common law or married, if you are claiming asylum based on being bisexual things like your dating/relationship history are often a very relevant portion of someone’s application and should include your current dating history. It is very hard to comment without the benefit of attorney client privilege and without more details surrounding the grounds for asylum and details contained in the asylum claim and then the appeal.
