Hi there,

My mother recently filed a refugee claim in Canada because the police in her home country are hunting her down for religious reasons. In her refugee claim, my minor sister is listed as a dependent and is applying alongside her. Since I am an adult and do not have any religious beliefs, I did not apply; however, my name is mentioned in the family infomation declaration.

I currently hold a valid TRV and Study Permit, which expire in 2033 and September 2027, respectively. I am planning to travel to the UK for a week this summer and then return directly to Canada. I would like to know if I will be able to enter Canada without any issues under these circumstances.

Thank you

Having a valid TRV and study permit usually allows you to re-enter Canada. However, your situation is not routine because your name is listed in your mother’s refugee claim, which may lead to additional questioning at the border.

A TRV never guarantees entry to Canada so yes your mother applying for asylum and your sister being included as a dependent could lead to either cancelling your TRV or being refused entry.

You should be able to re-enter, but you must be prepared for extra questioning.
Your status is valid: Your Study Permit and TRV remain legally active. Your mother’s claim does not cancel your documents.
possible risk: A border officer may question your "intent to leave" Canada since your family is seeking asylum. They might worry you won't return to your home country in 2027.
Carry proof of your current studies (Enrollment Letter) and your own financial support.
Do not travel to your home country. Traveling to the UK is fine, but visiting the country your mother is fleeing could jeopardize her claim and your re-entry.
As long as you can show you are a genuine student following your permit's rules, your entry should be granted. good luck!

Not sure how you can guarantee that TRV is still valid. When cancelled it is done electronically without notifying the person. Not saying it was cancelled but it could be.
