Can an International Student Hold a Permanent Full-Time Position While Studying?

Can an international student on a study permit be awarded/hold a permanent full-time position while only working the permitted 24 hours/week during school, then switch to full-time after graduation?


My brother was offered a permanent FT PSW position based on seniority, but the offer was withdrawn because he’s on a study permit.


Is this actually an IRCC rule, or an employer/union policy? Has anyone experienced this?

If on PGWP, yes. As a student can only work up to 24 hours.

He would need an approved LMIA from Canadian employer to apply for a closed work permit. So employer would have to prove no Canadian can do the job and then pay $1k and file for LMIA. Job offer has to meet certain conditions.

A Canadian company can withdraw an offer and has every right to do so if your brother cannot work full time. So not sure what you mean by union/employer policy.

24 hours a week is not FT so not sure how what you are suggesting would be possible.
