Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some guidance.

I received an email stating that my new permanent residence confirmation case has been created under my IRCC Permanent Residence Portal account. However, I don’t remember ever creating a PR Portal account.

I tried creating one, but it says that an account already exists with my email address. I’ve tried the passwords I can remember, but none of them work. I also tried the “Forgot Password” option, but I haven’t received any email or link to reset my password.

I’m now a bit confused because I’m not sure whether I actually have an account or how I’m supposed to access the one IRCC says was created.

Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, how did you regain access to your PR Portal account?

P.S- I had a representative. Does that matter?

Have you lost access to your PR portal account or your gckey account? Have you received P2 because that looks like a P2 mail

Yes, that's P2. But it say's to sign in to my existing PR account, yet when I choose reset password, I don't receive a link to reset.

Unbelievable, I just got the P2 email now. I got the P1 email just yesterday after 5 weeks waiting post FD ( July 3rd)

Application Date May 24th, 2023.
Final Decision July 3rd, 2026.
P1 email today August 10th.
P2 email just now, August 11th.

Hi there,
I had this exact same issue! The PR Confirmation Portal is actually the same website where your initial PR application was submitted (before you linked it to GCKey).

Because you used a representative, they likely created that original account using your email address. That is why the system is telling you an account already exists.

Here is what you should do to get in:
Contact your representative: Ask them for the password they originally used to create that portal account for you.
Try "Forgot Password" again: This is what eventually worked for me to bypass the confusion. Make sure to double-check your spam or junk folders just in case the reset link is getting filtered out.

The portal the representative used isn't the same as the residence portal you need to access. In fact, the P1 form is sent directly to the applicant, and the representative isn't even aware of it. There are two options: one if you already have an account, and the other to create one. I think you have to create a new account there.

Ok. I get what you are trying to do. This is what to do. Click the link in the email given to you. Don't try to open your former account. Just click the referred link and use forgot PW with your email. That's all

I have been lurking in the shadows on this thread for years now. I just wanted to share and encourage those still waiting because I too was relying on peoples updates for encouragement.

Applied- November 2023, Solo application, No dependants.

CPC- Mississauga, Etobicoke secondary

AOR- February 2024.

Biometrics request and completion- February 2024.

Pre-arrival- January 2025.

No additional information requests.

GCSM notes- Requested May 14, received June 4 2026.
- eligibility: passed
- criminality: passed
- Medical passed (expired)
- Info Sharing: In progress
- Security: Not started

Ghost Update directly in Gckey- July 10th 2026. (I believe this may be when my security passed based on a Study permit application that was approved within only 1 week of applying July 28-Aug 5th. Apparently they used the same security from the Passed PR security).

August 5th, Received update email for the study permit but when I logged into Gckey, A ghost update appeared under PR application instead.

Final decision - August 7, 2026: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

P1 email- Today, August 10th, 2026. Responded same day.

Congratulations. No need for study permit as it will become invalid once you get your ECOPR.
