With the PR card, you don't need a visa to enter Mexico, and the allowed stay for some nationalities is actually longer. It also increases your chances of getting a visa approved elsewhere. Without it, there's a higher risk of being denied boarding back to Canada—which happened to me in Mexico because Flair Airlines didn't know that an RTD alone was sufficient.

Have you traveled with your PR and RTD? Did you ever get transferred for secondary screening?
I just got my P1. My friend that's now a citizen, told me he was sent to secondary every time until he got the canadian passport.

Really? I messaged the embassy to find out if we're able to travel w/o a visa . Can you ask them with airline they flew on please?
You need a visa if you don’t have PR. He got a visa on his RTD. He booked an appointment and got it same day.
I though he was asking being sent to secondary upon returning Canada. (they send me every time, but i'm not pr yet).
I've been to mexico 3 times last year, and republica dominicana and colombia this year. Very easy at the immigration.
My roomate is nicaraguan, he had strict interview at mexico one time, and had problems to enter and leave colombia with lots of minutes being questioned and having the visa authenticity verified by immigration there.
For what i saw, the secondary in Mexico is aleatory by pressing a button.
Currently the waiting time for a mexican visa is one month ahead, you have to email them to book at the first week of the month, and they give a date for the next month if there are available spots.
If you have PR, it's compulsory to present it when returning back to Canada.
As for travelling outside, yes, there are advantages and benefits. Some countries that don't accept only an RTD for a visa will allow an RTD+PR card to apply for a visa and travel. For example, Malaysia and Singapore.

I have a question. For refugee travel document we all know that validity is 2 years before pr. After you got your pr they issue for 5 years.
I was wondering without the physical pr card can we apply with the Ecopr? There is no ecopr section on the application form. Is it possible apply with ecopr and get for 5 years?

Not too sure. The eCopr letter has an expiry date of 1 year. So I would recommend waiting till the actual PR card and then applying since that card clearly shows the 5-year expiry date.

I was given the yellow 221(g) sheet with “Wait for us to contact you” checked, and no additional documents were requested. My CEAC status has remained “Refused” with no updates for over a month. How long did your AP take before you received a decision or any communication?
My interview was at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone with a similar experience there.
I used my RTD to apply, no PR yet.
