Is this a joke? You applied for asylum because you claimed protection from your country of nationality. Generally, refugee claimants surrender their passport, and obtaining or using that passport - or travelling back to the country you claimed protection from - can raise serious concerns and, in some cases, put your permanent resident status at risk. Be very careful and seek proper legal advice before taking any action. My advice for you now, wait until you gain Canadian citizenship.
Where did I say that I plan to go back to my country of citizenship? Don’t assume things you don’t know. IRCC has an official procedure for returning your passport after you become a PR. If you go to your country’s consulate or travel to your country of citizenship, only in those two cases is it considered that a person has sought protection from their country. I am not planning to do either of those. I just want my passport back because it is still valid, and it is a European passport. With it, I can travel to almost any country visa-free.

Ok - now I understand you. I stand corrected!
However, my instinct that there are risks is correct, but saying a protected person can never request the return of their passport would not be accurate under current IRCC guidance and again I stand corrected!

You should not travel to 3rd country with your passport.
