I applied for refugee protection from within Canada, and my claim was approved. I am now applying for permanent residence (PR) as a protected person and currently filling out form IMM 5669.

One of the questions asks: “Have you made previous claims for refugee protection in Canada or at a Canadian visa office abroad, in any other country or territory, or with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)?”

I’m unsure how to answer this. Should I select “Yes” because I previously made a refugee claim in Canada (the one that was approved)?
Or does the word “previous” refer only to refugee claims made before the claim that was accepted?

Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how this question is interpreted?

i think i said yes (it was 3 years ago so not sure) but it makes sense to say yes and then explain in the box very clearly

i answered “No” because I am applying for PR as a Protected Person, and the application already requires me to submit my NOD, which clearly shows that I made a refugee claim in Canada. To me, that seemed like common sense.

Have you PREVIOUSLY made any claim before this? You don’t know what the word PREVIOUSLY means?? If this is your first the answer is NO!
