I have a question about stage 1 and stage 2... Is the background check done in stage 1 or stage 2? Because all the sources that I read say the background check is done in stage 2 after the officer determines the applicant is eligible and receives stage 1 positive.
However, whenever I call in, the automated system says "We are determining your eligibility" and "We are processing your background check." "We do not need your fingerprints, you do not need a medical".
can someone clarify this once again? I sent my biometrics like two months ago, this is exactly the same message I'm getting. Is it actually assigned to the officer and I should get my aip in 1-3 months or it's a bull?

When did you applied
Early summer 2025.

Was searching this thread to see if I can find something relevant to my case and this were the messages I found where people replied to this guy saying that it is assigned to the officer and I should get AIP soon. Seems like a lie to me, but people in this thread know better so I decided to double check

The movement is more than 1000 actually. it was 46600 left for those who applied in OCT 2025 for example and now 43900. And if you want to be sure, Also check for Jan till now, understand that files have been moving in that proportion. Don't let anybody make you feel otherwise, except maybe its the minister herself that is giving you the information firsthand!
I have been following up for months now and my calculation have been intact. just keep an eye on the total number of files as against each months. Let there be conspiracy theories, you just focus on what is visible to the mere eyes. If the H&C program is not cancelled, successful applicant will get AIP in about 32 months from now except you have a very complicated app or the rejected ones. Besides, the report stage of the Bill C12 has come out to be 188 NAY against 144 YEA. lets wait an see as everything unfolds. Thanks
I have been monitoring processing time only for February 2025 application,It is a total of 1100 files processed for those who submitted in February 2025, before it was 29,300 now it is 28,200.
*Before 29,300 files it was 29,900.

Do you mean AIP or PR? Either is likely a sign that some major reform is coming. If PR IRCC was likely hoping to reform/cancel the program this year but since bill c-12 hasn’t passed they will fill the quota for 2025. There was very little movement for most of the year so that is why they likely approved people quickly close to the end of the year. Your math still wouldn’t work to clear the backlog in 4 years with an even lower yearly quota. If you are predicting based on this sudden surge of approvals that is likely a one time event due to not filling a large portion of the 2025 quota not an indication IRCC would continue approvals in such large numbers. If anything this appears to confirm they were hoping to cull the program in 2025 but bill c-2 and now c-12 is taking much longer then they expected to pass.
Bill C12 already passed third reading before Christmas break, the amendments are also adopted to limited the power of cancellation , so, if they want to apply this bill against H&C, they have to fit their reason into admin error, but i do not think that they are gonna do that, after all, H&C is a small potatoes, and they have 400k protected persons waiting for PR,it is the real issues, so the main purpose of bill c12 is to tackle the refugee issues .
