Hi everyone,

I’m preparing my Express Entry PR application and I have a concern about my work experience. I’ve been working for the same employer and team continuously since 2021, but the company changed names in 2023.

  • From 2021 to 2023, the company was registered as Company A.
  • In 2023, it was sold and renamed Company B.
  • My position, duties, and team remained the same throughout, but there’s no trace of the old company online now.

I’m worried that IRCC might think I’ve only worked for 2 years because the new company is only 2 years old.

Has anyone faced a similar situation? How did you document your work experience so IRCC accepted the full duration? Any advice on employment letters or supporting documents would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

@Miss bee hello i am new here and i hope you can share your insight with me. I really appreciate it. Hello.. just wondering if anyone have the same situation. I failed to put a work experience when I was applying for student visa, and now I am applying for PR under pnp non express I am planning to add it in my activity history. Will this be a problem? I dont claim points for it and also my nomination is not based on that work experience either. Thanks for your help.

This is actually a very common scenario, and IRCC deals with it regularly. Company name changes, mergers, and acquisitions happen all the time. What matters to IRCC is that you can clearly demonstrate continuity of employment, not the name of the company.
Below is exactly how you can present and document it so IRCC accepts your full work experience from 2021 to 2025 with no issues.

How to Document Your Situation Clearly
1. Get a Single Consolidated Employment Letter
Ask your HR to issue one employment letter that covers your entire duration, for example:
Employment Period:January 2021 – Present (formerly Company A, now Company B)
The letter should include:
Your start date with Company A
  • A statement that Company A was acquired/renamed to Company B in 2023
  • Confirmation that your role, duties, team, and employment remained uninterrupted
  • Full-time hours, job title, and detailed duties
  • Company contact info and signatoryThis is the most important document.

2. Add a Short Explanation Letter (Optional but Helpful)
Attach a simple 1-paragraph Letter of Explanation (LOE):
Example paragraph:
I have been continuously employed in the same position and team since January 2021. In 2023, Company A was acquired and renamed Company B. My employment, job duties, working hours, and reporting structure remained unchanged. I am including my employment letter confirming continuous service from 2021 to present under both names.
This removes any doubt for the officer.

3. Provide Supporting Documents (If Available)
Not mandatory, but helpful:
Offer letter from Company A
  • Any revised contract or HR email confirming acquisition/renaming
  • Pay stubs covering both time periods (A and B)
  • T4s/NOAs from each year (optional but strong support)
  • Old emails or payslips showing the old company name
  • Employment portal screenshots (if available)
IRCC does not need online proof of Company A — they just need proof of your continuity.

Will IRCC think you only worked 2 years?
No, not if your letter clearly states:
  • Start date in 2021
  • Company A → Company B transition
  • Continuous employment
IRCC sees thousands of cases where companies merge, shut down websites, or rebrand. As long as documentation is clear, they fully accept the entire work history.

It’s quite common for applicants to realize later that they left out a past job when applying for a study permit, and in most cases it is not a problem. The study permit application does not require a full 10-year work history, so many people only include work that seems relevant at the time. For your PR application under PNP non–Express Entry, IRCC requires a complete activity history, and it is perfectly fine to add the missing work experience now, especially since you are not claiming any points for it and your nomination is not based on that job. This does not count as misrepresentation as long as you are truthful and transparent. To avoid any misunderstanding, you can include a short Letter of Explanation stating that the job was not added in the study permit application because it was not required or relevant at the time, and that you are now providing full details for PR purposes. IRCC sees this situation often, and as long as you explain it clearly, it should not cause any issues.

Hi Miss Bee, I need your expert advice again regarding the information I submitted in response to the PR Confirmation Portal email.
When I replied to IRCC, I filled in the template they provided, but I added some spacing for readability. For example:
✓ Name as it appears on your passport: XXX
✓ Current residential address (apt #, street #, street name, city, province, postal code):
apt # XXX
street # YYY
Do you think this formatting is acceptable, or should I have written the information in a single line without extra spacing, such as:
✓ Current residential address: XXX YYY … ?

Do you think this formatting can create any issues? Please help me to clarify this.
I appreciate your help.

My COPR was issued on 11/12/23 and expired on 12/12/2024. But haven’t got anything
You applied from india? and in which province , you got a job from offer from Canadian employer??

You have online tracker so all steps completed including eligibility, background check?

Why Waited this much long , haven't you reached out to them?

Zero issues. Don't worry, you can answer that email in any format.
