A question on inland sponsorship - Will I be eligible to get OHIP if I get AOR for a PR subsmission. If not then do I really need to wait for a year or two for insurance? Or I can get one if I raise OWP and get authorization letter to work by which I can be eligible for OHIP?

Hello,

I have a question if anyone could give me any advice. We had a civil marriage and decided not to invite anyone to our marriage and we're not very religious. My parents and family couldn't attend since they live in a different country and my wifes parents made us a small celebration in her apartment, food, wine, etc to celebrate. Will there be any issues? Also would it be considered a formal ceremony a civil marriage?
It rather depends on your family/personal context. For an arranged marriage - no, wouldn't work.

For many/most North/South American/European contexts - almost the standard nowadays, nothing much to worry about.

Other places - depends, you and your spouse should have a better idea than others do.

In all places: some families/countries/relgious subgroups are more rigid about these things.

No. I don't live in Ontario but from what I've read, you need to reach AIP of your PR application or if you can get a full time job that will last more than 6 months after you received OWP to get OHIP.

Thank you! yes we got married in Colombia and it wasnt an arranged marriage so I guess it wont be an issue.
Is it considered a formal ceremony?

I won't try to speak for what is considered a big ceremony etc in Colombia or just 'normal.' I do know that (like in many many 'civil code' countries) a civil wedding (city hall or a judge or whatever) is required, and the church wedding is technically optional. My guess is for younger people not a big deal and a small ceremony just a choice (even if a large wedding is - of course - more traditional).

Up to you to decide what you have that comes closest to the type of evidence IRCC suggests. My guess is it won't be an issue.

Note, other elements of your relationship (how long you've known each other / spent time together physically / lived together etc) may be more important than the wedding.

Post the Outland spousal AOR (India), if the visitor visa gets approved, what will be next steps on Outland PR application? Does anyone know? Will that cause any delays?

I hope someone can advise. Im applying for Spouse Sponsorship. In " Supporting Document for Immigration Prgram" there is a section to attach PROOF OF STATUS. What all document should be attached? Please let me know.

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question.

I got my PR through Quebec and applied for family sponsorship (outside Canada) also through Quebec. But since the process takes about 38 months, I’m thinking of switching to Ontario to speed things up.

Will this cause any issues later on? And if not, how can I change the process from Quebec to Ontario?

Thanks a lot!
Isn’t Ontario and others now 34months? Why make the switch?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help clarify the steps in the spousal/common-law sponsorship process, especially the meaning of “eligibility.”

For context, I'm being sponsored by my partner inland (common-law) from BC. Here’s our timeline so far:

App sent: Feb 4, 2025

AOR: Feb 27, 2025

BIL + pre-arrival letter: June 9, 2025

BIL done: June 10, 2025

Eligibility approval (AIP) + sponsor eligibility: June 13, 2025

We’ve now received two letters:

Principal Applicant Eligibility Approval Letter:

> “It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. Please note that a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security, and background checks for you and, if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they are not applying to join you in Canada at this time.”

Sponsor Eligibility Approval Letter:

> “You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. The Application for Permanent Residence (APR) for your relative will be processed separately and he/she will be contacted shortly.”

So…

✅ What exactly are the “eligibility requirements” for both the sponsor and principal applicant?

✅ Is getting eligibility approval (AIP) a good sign that the application is likely to be approved, assuming medical, criminality, and security checks are clear?

Thanks so much to anyone who can help explain the steps after eligibility. I feel like I know bits and pieces (AOR, biometrics, pre-arrival letters), but the whole process still feels a bit mysterious!

Wishing everyone the best with their own applications.
