Good morning,
I was wondering, once you have received the COPR, and have your passport back with the attached visa, you are eligible to travel? Received it back late last week, but the PR Tracker has not said anything about a final decision being completed or anything like that.

As far as I can tell, the visa attached in the passport is the travel document required, and the COPR paper gets signed by the CBSA officer when landing and actually passing thru immigration.

If this is correct please let me know.

Thank you
All correct. Ignore the tracker after this point, nothing more relevant there.

@CanadianAviator I would love to hear your timeline. I am a May 30 applicant, so still waiting on AOR.
September 24th 2024- application sent to IRCC, everything was paid at that time, to avoid any delays
October 20-25 2024- AOR and sponsorship approval
November 10th 2024 - biometrics request, biometrics completed around November 25th 2024
December 7th 2024 - medical request, and completed December 19th 2024
It was quiet for almost 100 days, at which point the eligibility changed from 'not started' to 'in progress'
May 18th 2025 - Eligibility and background verification updated to completed on the same day around
May 28th 2025 - Received application for pre arrival services
May 30th 2025 - COPR updated with file number etc.
June 6th 2025 - passport and photo request to send in to processing centre.
June 19th 2025 - Passport and COPR returned.

And now my wife is eligible to travel to Canada. It was a lengthy process and one I'm glad I won't have to go thru again.
The time between updates during the background and eligibility was ridiculous, definitely tested our patience.

If you have any further questions please let me know

Hi Guys I have applied for Spousal PR initially under Outside of Canada on June 2023 and my visa office is New Delhi. My wife entered Canada in November 2023 and now on SOWP in Canada. Couple of days back my wife has received passport request and in that they advised if in Canada raise a webform requesting for virtual landing, i have used this link https://secure.cic.gc.ca/ClientContact/en/Application and selected option Add a document to your application, once i submitted i received an acknowledgement email (Automated) back from the New Delhi VO. So my question here is is it ok if i get the acknowledgement that the webform was submitted successfully as i dont see any update yet stating the enquiry is received as its just been 2 days. I am just worried because the VO gave us only 5 days deadline to inform if in Canada. Can anyone advise if you have been in similar situation and how did things go after , would love to hear & advise if i missed anything from my side. Your perspective would add real value to the conversation—thank you for sharing your insight so generously in advance

Hey guys, I'm going to be applying for spousal sponsorship soon and wondering what the best way to do it would be?

We're getting married in August and going to do our legal marriage in Canada in September. We're likely going to go on a honeymoon in October and then return to Canada while awaiting the rest of the process.

I just have a few questions about the best way to do this. She's from a visa-exempt country (UK) and has an ETA so she can visit Canada or stay in the UK, we prefer whatever is quicker and/or more efficient. She's planning on staying with me for 6 months from October until she would have to leave due to her ETA limit. I'm a Canadian citizen.

A few questions I have:

1.) Should we do outland or inland for the quickest processing? Currently inland is showing much longer processing times so we were planning to do outland.

2.) If we do outland while she's in Canada, can we do biometrics and medical in Canada?

3.) If we do outland on her ETA, when she leaves after 6 months can she come back after a week or so or would it cause issues at the border - even if she has proof of a sponsorship application in process? What's the recommended way to extend her legal status in Canada so she can stay during her application?

4.) What is the process to get the marriage license the quickest? Any tips for how to speed up the marriage license process as I believe you need it before starting the spousal sponsorship and I'm hearing it can take 2-3 months just to get the marriage certificate.

5.) How would healthcare work when she's visiting? Any recommendations on insurance? I'm assuming she won't be eligible for OHIP until the end of the application up to a year down the line?

Any tips on how to proceed with this? We haven't started our application yet so just want to try and sort out what the most efficient way to do this would be. Just looking for the best way to do it in our circumstances to hopefully make it go as smooth as possible. Any recommendations on the best way to do it for us would be great.

1. You can do either. Personally I'd suggest outland - there are no longer big disadvantages for most. (The longer processing times for inland may be a mirage, but why risk it?)

2. Yes.

3. She does not necessarily need to leave - can apply to extend, routinely granted for those with PR apps in process. (Google 'extend my visit in Canada' and things like that).

4. Not that I'm aware of - so apart from getting married someplace they issue them more quickly. Delays vary by jurisdiction.

5. I don't feel I know the health care situation well enough to comment. At minimum should have some emergency / travellers' coverage.

Hi, my partner was studying from distant education and working full time, due to covid- took a break after completing bachelors in 2019 and started doing masters in 2021. In Education history should I add the gap or skip it followed by mentioning it in the LOE?

In IMM5532 section 5 - mention sponsors address for the past 5 years and it has only 5 rows, which we are unable to add for all the years. Do we know how cna we address it? Attach same form twice and add the remaining details there or simply mention in LOE?

Hi,

I also did the same thing. I and my husband just had a court marriage, did not have any traditional wedding or any ritual performed.

I think it is totally fine to submit the application with just court marriage, but make sure to provide enough proofs of your relationship like chats, phone calls, video call screenshots if you have any, pictures of both of you together (on any event or vacation). Write an explained letter of how you guys met each mother, affidavits from your friends and family members to prove that your relationship is known to other people and is genuine. Also, include your engagement pictures in the application, you can also write in the explanation letter that because of certain reasons, like work related or any other, you cannot do traditional wedding at the same time of your engagement or court marriage as it takes lots of time and planning and will be doing it in March 2026.

I personally do not think there would be any problem in doing this.

It is a huge red flag to have a large engagement and then have a court marriage a few days later. Most are also unwilling to publicly declare they are already married until they have their traditional ceremony. If your engagement is much bigger than your wedding and you’re unwilling to post publicly about your court marriage then best to wait.

Your spouse got sponsorship within expected processing times so not sure why you had other expectations . I don’t think you realize how long other people wait.

Probably best either to wait until you return from your honeymoon to apply inland or apply Outland.

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question.

I got my PR through Quebec and applied for family sponsorship (outside Canada) also through Quebec. But since the process takes about 38 months, I’m thinking of switching to Ontario to speed things up.

Will this cause any issues later on? And if not, how can I change the process from Quebec to Ontario?

Thanks a lot!

You'd have to physically move, get all ID etc., and document those changes to IRCC. How effective this is we don't really know.

Hello,

I have a question if anyone could give me any advice. We had a civil marriage and decided not to invite anyone to our marriage and we're not very religious. My parents and family couldn't attend since they live in a different country and my wifes parents made us a small celebration in her apartment, food, wine, etc to celebrate. Will there be any issues? Also would it be considered a formal ceremony a civil marriage?
