Are there any reasons why a lof Canadians and immigrants on Reddit, the internet feel very anti-Canada when Canada is the second-best country in the world by USnews (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/slideshows/the-25-best-countries-in-the-world?onepage) and the best country to be an immigrant (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/slideshows/the-25-best-countries-in-the-world?onepage). Where's the disconnect?
I assume usnews is pretty reliable since university ranking by usnews is pretty reliable & reputed.
*Ahem*

Most Canadian, especially old growth Canadians are Daft Cunts (tm). They will never fix the things or let anyone fix things that need to be fixed and will bitch and moan about everything around them. They did not fix their health care since 2000s, they did not fix their housing since late 2000s, they fixed nothing! And now they are moaning why evil Indians are coming and taking their delicious food out of food bank and McTimmy jobs and basement apartments.

I will say people to be very careful while looking at those rankings. Your own lived reality and rankings may differ massively. As far as universities go, the upgrade of attending a north american major research based university and a private college in say India is such a massive leap that rankings of universities stop mattering at all. Is there a pack order of universities? Yes, likely. Will it be relevant to your career? Very situational. Its like blaming your shoes to win a race. It does matter but after you have fixed a whole lot of other things. Most never get to that point. Same is with Canada. The ranking's subject matter will apply to you at a much later point, perhaps and situationally.

Canadians are among the largest users of Reddit and Gen Z revolves their entire lives around social media. Hence, you see a lot of actual issues being blown into hyperbolic proportions. In most cases, successful people do not spend a great deal of time making negative posts or venting online, which is why most of the posts you see online are from people who are struggling. This is not exclusive to Canada. In the subreddit of most developed and developing countries, you have a lot of young people posting about how absolutely shit their lives are. It’s become extremely rare to see positive news and there’s also the fact that negativity sells and garners more clicks and attention. The best thing for anyone’s mental health would be to stay out of toxic social media sites and to dedicate that time towards self betterment.
Its true about Reddit. Whenever I post something about things happening in my city, I get multiple good responses within minutes. Lot of people are on Reddit in Canada. Not was the case in the US.

Every now and then when I feel bored, I go to random subreddits (calgary, edmonton, toronto and vancouver) and post "What was the loud noise/bang on XYZ street". The ensuing "yes I heard too" and "no you are lying" is funny as hell.

Its even more funny when the street does not even exist in the said city.

My guess it's because USNews give equal weight in its scorecard when ranking countries, whereas most people in a community look at the variable most important, or most visible to them.

If you look at Canada's scorecard: https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/canada , you can see it scores extremely well on things like "safety", "animal rights", "human rights", "environmental rights", "racial equality", "religious freedom", "gender equality" etc. which nice and all, but if you look closely Canada falters on "Affordable".

Salary, rent and groceries are much much more visible to most people than say "animal rights" or "religious freedom", and this is especially true for someone who is living paycheck to paycheck as they would more likely see Canada at an affordability standpoint than from its other redeeming qualities, and from there it's not unfathomable to think that locals in Canada would rank Canada on a much much lower scale.

Furthermore, my bet is that Canada's "affordable" score would be an average across the nation which mean cheaper cities like Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, and the Maritimes are pulling up this score while those in reddit would be probably be from Vancouver or Toronto where a hypothetical "affordable" score would fall well below Canada's average.

Personally, I would not rate Winnipeg higher. I assume Regina and lots of Maritime cities are the same. That city is very depressing and the rent was not much cheaper either. I had a feeling that there were so many people with mental health problems and just couldn't get out of there because they just didn't have money for a plane ticket.

I liked what Tokyo was doing paying people to move out of Tokyo. Canada should work on moving big companies, universities etc to 2nd and 3rd tier cities. Tax incentives, remote work etc etc. There are many things they could do. Alas, nobody cares.

This is why you should not take any subreddit seriously... A GOLDFISH is smarter than most subreddits... especially it those are canadian subreddits and deal with housing or politics.

Yeah, some people on reddit say that the ranking is not academic and some countries pay to be in the ranking which is I guess a valid point. So, I am wondering how to solve this perception vs reality about living in Canada objectively or academically? Some said UN happiness index (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Happiness_Report) in which Canada ranks 13th which is not bad. I look at GDP Per Capita (PPP) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita) to measure purchasing power in which Canada ranks 25th which is okay, I guess?

This is a really good point. I don't know how they measure "Affordable", but I just take a quick look at the US, Germany and Australia and all falters on "Affordable" in which they all have less than 10 points..

Yes, which is probably the reason everyone else is also complaining about affordability. If the passing is say 70, it doesn't matter if you score 15 or 10, they're all way below your expectations, and you would most likely perceive them at a much lower overall "score".

@GandiBaat @RSub @Taran D

Guys, I need your advice.

I see so much hate against Indians by Canadians on social media, it is freaking crazy! You can have a random post on Reddit about something from India, or something related to Indians and you'd see at least 10 hate comments from Canadians. I got my PR recently and have no clue if it's even a good idea or not to go to Canada. I spent so much time learning French from scratch (I speak fluently now) and one of the main reasons why I completed my Masters overseas was to get additional points for my PR.

Now that I have it and I see a constant barrage of news stories about the failed student visa program, extremely hateful comments on almost all Canadian news channels on YouTube and on Reddit. It feels like the quote "be careful what you wish for or you just might get it". Sure there are quite a few trolls on the internet but there are a lot of issues in the Canadian society and a lot of animosity against immigrants as well- once again, thanks to the student visa abuse.

If I do end up going to Canada, I'm thinking about immediately going to Quebec. Almost everyone told me to not even go even near the GTA. I'm 50-50 right now.
Honestly, it would be so sad to abandon this visa for which I spent so much time and money for. But at the same time I don't want to end up in a racist hellhole where different groups are fighting with each other. I spoke to @iSaidGoodDay about it as well and their experience is much better than what is shown online. But it does make me think that if there is so much open hatred and racism online in Canada against Indians, there certainly would be people in real life who feel that way and are waiting for the right opportunity to express their hatred in real life.

If I try for Europe now, it means spending another 5-7 years for a PR, with no guarantees. :(
