Hey guys, I chose not to submit a new application and let my current one play out. I just had GU1 on my PR card application. My name has changed to my new name and there is a final decision with today's date. Thank you everyone, specially @armoured for all of your help.

Hello Guys,

I have a question regarding the PR card and name change.

I am planning to change my legal name after married (I am assuming my spouse last name). I have been reading that I need to apply for a new PR card and attached my marriage certificate to the application.

My only concern is that my Passport is from Ecuador and it still has my family last name. If there any issues if my passport and PR dont have the same information?

What happends if in the future I decided to travel outside of the country?

Please any help or advice is appreciated.

-If you're resident in Canada (more than one year in most cases), you are eligible to change your name here acc to the civil procedures.
-Your home country passport not yet reflecting that is normal.
-Other side of that, home country passport is your problem and responsibility. I /think/ many countries allow you to change your name for passport purposes simply by showing them that you've changed it here (show documentation, marriage certificate as legal basis) - but it's up to you to deal with Embassy/Consulate.
-Of course, strongly recommend you do that (change your passport). While it /can/ be possible to travel with the original name and docs like PR card with married name, you'd have to be carrying your marriage certificate wth you just in case, etc. And you'll probably always be nervous that some airline official will think it an issue and not let you board (or more likely delay your check-in while they look into it.)

There are lots of other corner cases, too - like some countries will let PR-holders enter without a visa, but they of course epxect the passport and PR card to match (even though that's not actually a strict requirement).

Just much easier when the dcos all match.
