How far along are you in the asylum process in Canada? Are you still waiting for a hearing or have you already been approved and have PR?
You may want to speak with a lawyer. If you marry an American and he starts the green card process and you don't have a hearing yet, then it's possible IRCC may say you don't need Canada's protection.
