Hi all, I see this question was asked before but wanted to confirm as the replies seem to be from several years ago and I'm concerned that things may have changed in the interim.

I'm a Canadian citizen who was born in India and am applying for fresh OCI. I got Canadian citizenship in '03 and have my original cancelled Indian passport. Trying to clarify whether I need to send originals of my current Canadian passport, cancelled Indian passport (which has my landing paper in it), and citizenship certificate if I decide to mail instead of going to the center, as looks like it is basically impossible to get an appointment and walk-in was a nightmare.

Sending original is not needed. Self attested copy is enough.

Ideally they should get update by next week and that will give some of us some hope..

Thanks for your reply. My status got updated after BLS working hours yesterday, I’ll be there today and see if I have a good luck in picking up.

BLS tracking status: Under processing at CGI
OCI status: No records found

Applied on Oct 5 with Walkin. Fingers crossed we receive ack early next week .

How long did it take for you to get in the office? When you got in line? When could you get in the office?

Congratulations on getting the acknowledgement. Just wanted to confirm; You received ack on email, right? And after you received ack, you were able to track the application on ociservices.gov.in ?

I also applied my son’s OCI on September 26,2023 using postal method and BLS Surrey received the application on September 27,2023.But there is no update on the application yet.eh I tried to look for the status on both OCI website and BLS Vancouver Jurisdiction it says no such record found on both of these websites.Do you have any idea what does it mean?Also I called BLS customer care and they said we just create a request for the status update and you should expect some status on your application in 24/48 hours.but there is no update yet.

In my opinion there should some update in BLS site by now for sure. I can’t really speak for Vancouver jurisdiction, but I remember seeing a post earlier about someone maintaining a sheet for Vancouver applications. Search for that and see if you are able to track timelines. I do think you need to call or go to BLS and check why there are no updates on your app yet. wish you the best.

If yes, what have you mentioned on the OCI application where it’s mandatory to input the place of birth?

Place of birth is required input for Canadian passport application unless you make a special request to leave it out because of some reason. If you did that it could cause problems travelling to many countries including India. If it's a mistake in the passport get it corrected. I may be wrong, but I think you will need place of birth in passport to apply for OCI.

My parents have date of acknowledgement sept28 on the oci website. Vancouver jurisdiction - any idea when they could receive an update?
