Spousal Sponsorship from China

A year or two ago, I sponsored my Spouse from China. We have been broken up for one year. She was living with me and my parents but moved out. I helped her get a full-time job and he now lives in an apartment in Montréal while I am a student who only works in summer to pay back my student loans.

She has threatened me by saying I need to take care of him for 3 years, but he makes more money than me and is financially stable. I have proof that she have paid at least three months of rent this year because she sent me a picture with 3 cheques from them to her landlord for rent. Can force me to pay them money by applying for social assistance even though they make more money than me and are living well? She wants to study at University, can they force me to pay their student loans? She wants to use my car and threatened to make me pay her if I do not let her use my car, am I obligated to say yes even though the car is in the name of my mom?

I am very worried about her trying to make me pay her and I feel manipulated into marrying her and sponsoring her. She seemed to genuinely love me, but once she had his permanent residence, she started to break down our relationship. She would get mad over little things and purposely hurt me by degrading me in the worse way she could think of, leading to our eventual breakup.

I feel manipulated and scared. Please help.

You have no obligation to pay her student loans - she cannot force you to do this. No, you have no obligation to let her use your car.

If she goes on social assistance during the three year period after she landed in Canada and became a PR, then you would be required to pay this money back. How long ago did she become a PR?

You mention your sponsored your spouse a year or two ago but split up a year ago. How long did your spend together before the relationship ended? How did you meet and how much time did you spend in person before marrying? How old are you? If you are still in school and the car is your your mother’s name so you must have married quite young.
