At this point in time, it seems like a double edged sword to get citizenship for me because my Indian passport will not be usable after the oath. Please correct me if I am wrong, but we have to renounce our Indian passport as soon as we take the Oath?

Wondering if anyone would know the timeline for oath ceremony->certificate received->Canadian passport processing time (till you receive it) without taking into consideration the ongoing strike. Also, wondering how the strike would affect the post oath to passport timeline as well.

P.S. I have not yet received the oath, nor have received any further update since the GU of March 2nd. But, had travel scheduled in upcoming months, which I am contemplating about now :)
Yeah not like right after you receive your Canadian passport you have to immediately surrender your passport but yes you have to start the process as soon you can. After your Canadian passport , I think if you use your Indian passport to travel then there is some fine that you pay to Indian embassy. There is a chart on their website that you can check to see what the fines look like. This is the link-

https://eoi.gov.in/eoisearch/MyPrint.php?0834?001/0005

Given the strike everything is going to be delayed my friend. One of known went to renew his passport today and unfortunately he was sent back stating they only accepting emergency and humanitarian reasons for passport request in office. Rest all apply online.

Yes, you have to start the process to renounce it for sure. But , from what I understood on the BLS website; after we get citizenship (after the oath), we cannot use our Indian passport as we will no longer be an Indian citizen (even if we have not started the surrender process).

If you use it there is a fine. I honestly don't rely on BLS info too much. Had bad experiences in the past when I just relied on their data only. There is so much of data that they have not updated on their website which is why I always go by what is written on Indian embassy. The link I shared is from their website, not BLS. Sooner or later but you have to surrender it anyways as OCI process can't be started until you surrender your passport.

Now that the strike is official. I don't know what's going to happen.
I had an urgent situation, beyond my control and a travel date of May 2nd, which I don't know how I'm going to make. Emailed my local office on Monday with no reply about my urgent certificate request.
I know it sucks for everyone, but it sucks a lot right now as this unfolds.
Currently this is the status for passport issue services. One of my friend went to renew his passport today and was not aware of strike. They sent him back and asked him to apply it online unless it's one of the following situation.

Domestic Passport services-

During the current labour disruption, Service Canada only processes domestic passport applications for emergency and humanitarian situations. Passport services are available only at specialized passport sites.

Humanitarian/emergency situations are defined as:

passport clients at risk of financial hardship
passport clients who rely on travel as a source of employment, and their income security will be jeopardized
passport clients who must travel for medical reasons, or have had a death or illness in the family
passport clients whose situation is deemed urgent on compassionate grounds
Passport applications that do not meet these criteria will not be processed when employees are striking. Delivery times will exceed published service standards.

Was it helpful? I am still confused if I should order or not
Requesting notes is also effected by the strike btw. I found my notes had good information when I was curious about delays. If you request agent notes, it can tell you if there is something wrong with your application or taking longer, can also show things that may have been done wrong.
If it's just a collective SCR office delay, then the noted may not show anything useful at all. If you are concerned about something on the application, you can request them.

Update on my situation: I was able to reach the call center. Talked to an agent, she will be sending an urgent message to my local office. They haven't sent my certificate as of yet, and I have to travel by May.

Fingers crossed. Not sure who is working in the local office but it seems there are still people who are working on things.

I really hope the strike can be resolved sooner than later for everyone's benefit.

Did you tell them in your ceremony that you need the certificate on urgent basis?

My ceremony was scheduled as a result of urgency. Then again, I notified them during the ceremony, as well as with my signed oath document.

My tracker has the application status 'Closed' which is after they get your signed oath.

So they did check everything. It was too close to the strike though, maybe someone got lazy.

Lol. That's good then they did all that was required from their end to expedite your request. Hopefully it comes soon.

My lpp got complete today. Someone worked during strike too. Now wait for the oath date starts. Everything is a wait game.
The tracker normally updates 2 or 3 days after the actual update, so it was likely done on Monday or Tuesday before the strike went in effect
