Hello good people, I am writing to see if anyone went through the process of applying for travel document for a newborn baby born in India to a Canadian couple. My wife and I are naturalized Canadian Citizens and we were blessed with a kid this week. Does anyone have an idea how long does it take to get a citizenship certificate for a baby if I were to submit the application in person at Canadian India cCnsulate in New Delhi? Or if anyone can provide information on their own journey to get canadian citizenship certificate in India? Any information in this regard will be helpful. Thank you.

The child needs a Canadian passport. Apply it with the citizenship certificate:

Delhi is one option but you can also get in touch with Mumbai

Thank you for your replies… I read somewhere about DNA testing requirements if the baby is born outside of Canada. Does anyone have an idea how long does it take for DNA testing and if they do actually ask for DNA testing?

Why do you need the DNA when the registered birth certificate issued by local authorities will mention name of both parents ?

It’s in IIRC guidelines that they may ask for DNA testing as “last resort” to establish parent-child genetic link as you can only transfer citizenship if the kid is genetically linked to you. That’s why I am asking if this has happened to anyone in the forum.

There is something more to your msg above, which I dont understand

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/standard-requirements/dna-testing.html

When to do DNA testing
An applicant may be given the option of undergoing DNA testing in cases in which documentary evidence has been examined and there are still doubts about the authenticity of a parent-child genetic relationship (where it has been claimed) or when it is not possible to obtain satisfactory relationship documents. A DNA test to prove a genetic relationship should be suggested by IRCC only as a last resort.

I think I might have not asked the question in the right way but does DNA testing happen often at CHC New Delhi or am I overthinking it? Reading forum threads is like a rabbit hole; the more inkling you have about a topic, the more likelihood you will find something.
