Tagging a few old members who went through a long wait for their certificate, more than 1.5 months to 2 months. Already crossed 6 weeks mark as mentioned on IRCC website!

@thesonicbro @zindabad Can you please share what's the recourse or solution for me? Or what you did? I have been waiting since 17th October 2022. Almost 6 weeks now.

Sorry to hear you all are going through these issues. Even I had a long wait for my certificate from Montreal office. My agent also didn't entertain any request for urgent dispatch of certificate. Also montreal office is really slow in sending out certificates ( looking at all forums threads).

So some info for you all:

My oath date was 12th Sep

I called the ircc hotlines a few times during the wait for my certificate every time same replies like 6 weeks wait etc.

I had read in the forum that call center agents can actually see the date the certificate was shipped. Not very sure the print date can be seen by them. In all my calls they always said they cannot see any shipping date.

Finally on my call on 18th Oct the agent said he can see the certificate was shipped on 14th oct.

I finally received my certificate on 19th oct. The date on the envelope was 17th Oct.

So I believe calling the agent is the best way to find out about your certificate. I know people say its hard to reach an agent but i was able to reach an agent every time using the process below:

Learn the codes. When it says press 1 or press 2 etc. Then call and press the buttons in that order. No need to listen to most of the announcements. Just press the pattern e.g. 1 1 2 1 1 1. If it doesnt connect keep calling and do the same.

Keep doing this for 4 or 5 times and it should connect. i did it many times and mostly it connected in 4 or 5 tries.

Hoping you all get your certificates soon. Best wishes.

Hey thank you for help. When was your application closed? Did it closed before you got certificate or after they shipped your certificate?

Mine was sent on 9th November as per the call center agent, but I still have not received it. Is it deemed lost by Canada Post? How long should I wait?
Oath: 17th october!

I thought you got a reply to your email saying it was shipped on 9th november. I believe you should call an agent and see what they say when and if it was shipped.

Both email and call center say shipped on 9th November! Is it lost by Canada Post?
Sorry to hear that you are still waiting after so long! Perhaps the mail carrier misdelivered it to a neighbor? you might want to knock on a few neighbors' doors and ask if any of them received a large, dark brownish/orangish yellow envelope addressed to you. it's about 1.5 inches wider and longer than a standard 8.5x11" paper

It has been an absolute nightmare, has caused me an anxiety disorder. My doctor had to put me on medication since last week. And here I was thinking they will consider my urgency request on 17th october 2022, how naïve of me.

Urgency is gone, still no certificate.

I have asked neighbours already, I even went to Canada Post delivery depot twice. Nothing so far.

@gappy31600 Thank you for sharing all the details. if you have seen one of my recent comment here, about my conversation with the IRCC agent where he blatantly affirm there is no way agents can see when or if the certificate has been shipped. He sure made me look like I am the crazy one here. And ended up saying I will have the same response should I choose to call back again, its a personal choice if i wish to call back again, asking about this question as the answer will be same!!!

And let me tell you i have seen multiple post here confirming people were able to get shipping date from the agents over the phone. winnipeg and montreal office have terrible reputations for mishandling cases. Guess what these two cities have in common???? i think being a bum is a french thing LOL i also happen to reside in mtl SMH!

I am happy for you, that you have the certificate finally! Congratulation :)

Closing file means nothing. I have seen files being closed 1 day after oath and certificate gets mailed out 10-15 days later. There is absolutely zero procedures being followed even for us "new" citizens. LOL Height of insanity and gross incompetence.

Called them today. So both email and call center say shipped on 9th November! Is it lost by Canada Post?
I would say wait till 28th and then on 29th if you still don't have it call the agent and let them know its been 6 weeks already. You might have to fill the solemn declaration . Here's hoping you don't have to go that route. I had a call with an agent on 14th Oct (before my 6 week deadline) while following up for my certificate and the agent sent an email to me declaring what i need to do if i dont receive it by 6 weeks. I will paste the email body in my next comment here.

Good day,
Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Certificate not received - Delivery times have not passed
Less than 6 weeks

If you are waiting for your citizenship certificate, but that less than 6 weeks have passed from the time it was mailed to you:
  • Rest assured it is normal, you should receive it shortly.
More than 6 weeks
After the 6 weeks have passed, if you still have not received your citizenship certificate, we invite you to follow the instructions below:
  • If you attended the citizenship ceremony virtually:
    • email the Oath or Affirmation of Citizenship form using the email address indicated in your Notice to Appear to take the Oath of Citizenship by video,
    • once we receive your signed Oath or Affirmation of Citizenship form, the certificate should be sent by regular mail within 2 weeks.
  • If you attended the citizenship ceremony in person, OR
  • If you applied for an initial citizenship certificate or to update or replace a certificate that was lost, stolen or destroyed:
    • complete this Solemn Declaration,
      • you can fill it out online and print it or fill it out by hand,
    • send it to the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia,
      • the address and fax number are provided at the bottom of that form,
      • once we receive your declaration, it will take approximately 6 weeks to receive the new certificate.
More than 180 days
If 180 days have passed since the certificate was mailed to you, please submit a new application for a citizenship certificate by mail or online.
To find out how long it may take to process your application, please consult the processing times page.
Dual citizenship
Every country decides whom it considers to be a citizen. If more than one country recognizes you as a citizen, you have dual citizenship. Canadian citizens are allowed to take foreign citizenship while keeping their Canadian citizenship.
If you are a permanent resident, but not a Canadian citizen, please ask the embassy of your country of citizenship about its rules before applying for Canadian citizenship. If you are granted Canadian citizenship, you will have dual citizenship.
Travelling as a dual citizen
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Please note that Canadian permanent residents and Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, cannot apply for an eTA, therefore we recommend they travel using their Canadian passport.
