Hi has anyone recently received their surrender certificate? My status is showing 'surrender certificate is granted and available for issuance' for the past 3 weeks. I have raised a query on Sampark as well but no movement or response. So frustrated. My OCI appointment date is on May 5 and now am worries if it will come on time. This is Toronto jurisdiction. Any one in similar boat?

Hey Guys,
For Ottawa Office - OCI postal Application, do we need to send Original (Canadian Passport & Citi Cert) ?

Hoping not to send originals....
Yes. I am sending my application in the next few hours. I am including my Canadian passport and original citizenship certificate for verification.

Hi, my kid's date of acknowledgment is March 9th. The OCI document is received in Toronto today (Apr 11) and I'm expecting to receive it in the next 2-3 days. You should be fine and expect to get it sometime next week.
My another son's date of acknowledgment is March 10th. he OCI document is received in Toronto yesterday Apr 11 as well.

@Hot2Cold @vvarma

Are there any other documents which needs to be uploaded apart from the one listed below?
  • Current Passport: Canadian Passport
  • Indian Origin Proof: Indian passport with cancelled and surrendered stamp (Just Indian Canceled PP or Surrender Cert as well?)
  • Indian Visa: CoPR with stamp of landing
  • Marriage Certificate
What about this Employment/Work letter, do we need to upload this one as well?

You've got all the uploads correct.

The employment letter was not asked for when I submitted my application, and is mostly not needed but it is always better to have a copy with you. You can write a brief description of your job yourself. It is not necessary to get it from your employer.

For surrender certificate i had sent to BLS Brampton by purolator on March 8. Online tracking shows my application date as March 17.
The status has been "Processing at Consulate General" for few weeks. Is this expected timeline for surrender certificate.

Hey @Hot2Cold When I got my PR, I was not living in India at the time. Do I still need to upload my COPR under Indian Visa? When I click on Indian Visa, the instructions say that I need to upload a copy of my Indian visa with 3 months validity (something like that). There is no mention of COPR. Would you still suggest uploading the COPR? Thanks.

I had talked about this in one of my earlier posts.

  1. I remember reading somewhere that you have to upload the COPR to the Indian Visa placeholder but I cannot find that reference now. It will neither harm nor benefit uploading it here. Since the document requirements seem to be fluid and change with time, it is best to follow the current document requirements and not upload if it is not explicitly asked for.
  2. My hard copy of COPR was returned by BLS staff at the counter so I am assuming that it is one of the documents that are NOT required for the OCI application.
  3. I to was not living in India when I got my PR, so I don't think that that will be a factor in the requirement to upload COPR.

Likewise!
I just checked the uploaded doc list on my OCI Application PDF - and the only 3 docs that I uploaded were: 1) Current Passport (Canadian), 2) Previous Indian Passport of Self (Root) and 3) Professional Details letter

I did not upload COPR.

Thank you @vvarma and @Hot2Cold. I have included a photocopy to be safe, but I have not uploaded the COPR. Given how moody some of these officers are, I am concerned about them flipping if they see COPR uploaded under Indian visa . But it looks like it does not matter either way.

For the question on uploading COPR:

I found this document* that I downloaded from BLS sometime in Feb 2022. This checklist has now been replaced by this document.

So I guess that it is no longer required to upload the COPR, but please check with BLS and carry it just in case.

*The document I downloaded is on my Google Drive, and I will delete it after a few weeks...

Thank you @Hot2Cold . I am sending my application by mail because there is not a single appointment available in Ottawa. I have included a self-attested photocopy just for peace of mind :)

Guys my surrender status is now stuck in the following for over 1.5 weeks - Surrender certificate has been granted and is available for issuance.

I have already submitted Sampark query but no response yet. Original date of submission was 9th march 2022. Any idea why its taking this long and how can we follow up? Thanks

Could you try calling BLS or the HCI? They tend to answer the phone in the morning between 8 and 9 AM in my experience. Good luck, my friend.
