Hi everyone,

My wife and I applied for PR/OWP for her last week and don't expect to get an AOR letter until February at which point we can TRY and apply for MSP which will not go into effect until May, 2016. Because of this we are likely going to have to pay out-of-pocket for a lot of her tests and check-ups until we are covered (if we get covered at all).

My question is, is there anything I can do to mitigate costs? I have done a lot of research online and I don't see any way around it. If I have to pay I will and our parents will likely help us along the way, but if I can do anything to make it cheaper I would be interested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Go with a midwife and home birth rather than a hospital birth. That's by far the easiest way to lower costs.

If your wife is at the beginning of her pregnancy, I would also suggest insuring her from pregnancy complications and emergencies, because these could cost you a lot, if anything happens. There is a plan that covers her until 31 weeks of pregnancy for complications, as well as all other emergencies. You can send me a private message if you need more info.
