Well if you want to get it with you earlier, as to avoid delay when asked, you should get it.
When asked to provide, write a cover letter, explaining that you obtained it on so and so date because it takes 2+ months to get it. If you have not visited US after a certain period of time, write and mention that too (if it implies to you).
In the mean time, apply for a new one. If they refuse to accept the old one, you will be half way through to obtaining the new one, and, if they accept all is well.
Sometimes they will except old Police Clearance as well and even more than 1 year old.
Though when you apply fresh it should be no more than 3 months old. And usually the expiry is 1 year from the time of issue.
