Hello guys,

I was married when I got my PR card here in Canada and this was like a year ago. Things are not going well in the marriage anymore and we are really considering a divorce. Our marriage was not in Canada, os we would need to deal with papers outside of canada too.

Would we loose our PR status if we get divorced?

Is there a time (years) for this kind of thing?

Thanks,

No, it will not affect your PR status, assuming that you are an economic immigration class PR.

I did the regular Federal Skilled Work Program, before the new Express Entry came in.

I remember seeing somewhere about this.. that you should stay for at least 2 years married after the immigration.

And, even you you separate, you can only try to get married again and sponsor someone after 5 years. Is that correct?

Doesn't apply to you since you immigrated through an economic stream. This would only apply to you if you had been sponsored for PR through family class (which you weren't). So you're good.

Oh, good.

So, even if I decide in the next years to get married again to someone else, I wouldn't need to wait for 5 years before sponsoring, right?!
