What exactly does the VO do?

Good morning fellow wannabe-Canadians.

I have a question and maybe you can link me somewhere or give me a short description.
What is it exactly that the VO do with your application.

I was under the impression that Mississauga checks your application to see if everything is filled in and sends it to the country where you applied.

What is their job?
I know they check if your relationship is genuine, but what else?

Do they call former employers?
Do they check your criminal record? (Since i added the proof of being a good person)
What exactly do they go over?

Just curious and waiting for my turn

cic-m check all the information of the sponsor. Sponsoring their love one if they can provide the basic needs of theirfamily.
In both let's say in Manila they check all the info. Of the applicant orbeing sponsored. If they have criminal record,previous marriage bcoz some of the applicant / being sponsor is a fixed marriage..the details of everything in that person.

Ahhh ok.

I'm kind of curious why they want to know where i worked 10 years ago though. I just had some part time jobs while studying all over the place, so the details are limited. Hope that won't be a problem.

It is the job of the visa office/immigration officer to determine that as a foreign national, you are not inadmissible to Canada, as detailed in the Act and the Regulations. Among other things, they need to know that you haven't committed any acts, or belonged to any organizations that could render you inadmissible, so depending on where you are in the world and how old you are, they might ask you to go pretty far back into your history. It is your duty to answer all questions put to you truthfully and as accurately as you can, so that the officer is able to conclude that you are admissible.

If you don't remember specific details, try to give them as much detail as you do remember. Don't leave any gaps in your history or background, it could stretch your processing out even longer than average times.

I didn't leave any gaps, but i was working for an employment agency so i got send around jobs every 6 months or so working on projects. At the same time i was in university, so it's multiple things at the same time.

We'll see if they need any clarification.
10 years is a long time for someone in their late 20's.

well you have to declare it on your application if you were.....names date times........and if you don't declare it and they find out then I would say that is a misrepresentation.......whether they can check or not I do not know.....

I think it is one of those agencies that we will never figure out......like why are some VO's so fast and others so slow....we all fill out the same application and provide all the same information....they only difference is personal proof......but this is all family class so there should not be such a difference in processing times at the VO's!!!

This is what I wonder too. I think it boils down to the amount of fraud for the region the VO covers, and if they have to spend extra time on each application to ensure it's legitimacy.
