Want to apply for candain GC being on H1-B holder in US

I work in US as a software developer on H1-B visa and I have not applied my GC for US yet, I am planing to file my US GC this year, I want to apply for Candian green card just for an option, can I do it? and If I apply for Canadian GC is it going to have any impact on my US GC processing or it has nothing to with US GC.
