My husband called CIC and found out that our file was in Ottawa. They told him that when we get PPR it will come from LA....so that's interesting! Some of our files may not be in LA, but the email will come from there. Moochops, we called CIC and they told us where our file was....

Wow good to know.
We never received AOR from buffalo or which ever office it went to so I just assumed it was in LA. I doubt tho that it was processed this fast if it stayed in buffalo and then had to be transferred.

I'm still checking the forum multiple times a day hoping for you guys and the other Jan's be through

I just got off the phone with CIC. They told me our file was indeed in LA and that it will stay there. They said it could be taking so long because lots of files were transferred at once.

Glad that they decided to do this now

How on earth did you get the LA info????? Must be more persuasive than me!!!!!

I just told them that I was informed by an agent at their call centre that my file was transferred to LA on May 8th but I haven't heard anything yet. After hearing the Buffalo office was closed, I wanted to see if my file was sent to Ottawa. Basically just wanted to know where my file was. She was about to tell me something generic when I just politely and slowly said the same again. that someone at her call centre told me LA... and then I told her how I wrote to LA May 15th or so and they told me at that time it was still in transit and had not arrived yet. This evidently was enough for her to check out the file's location... dunno. It's a crap shoot calling that place.

Hey guys me again!!! Yes I'm full of questions!!! Well if you guys are familiar with me I originally was going to Canada to wait out my application (hopefully on a nice long visitor's record) in August. Now we were planning on driving, but now we are looking into flying as another option. I (being the American), my hubby (being Canadian), were going to fly with each other and was wondering do I have to purchase a round trip ticket? I've heard that I would not have to show proof of ties and a few others said I would have too, so this is confusing me. @_@

Hi there! The challenge you have is that folks' experiences have varied because of their personal circumstances and the luck of the draw of the border officer they get, etc.

Whether you drive or fly, to enter as a tourist you need to be able to show, if asked, that you intend your stay as a tourist to be temporary. You can have dual intent in the long term (moving) but the idea is that if your PR app takes a long time, you will ensure you either extend your tourist stay or leave before your stay expires.

Are you comfortable sharing where you live in the US and why you decided not to drive?

Also, check ticket prices, round trips can be cheaper than one ways, oddly enough.

My suggestion is to buy a greyhound ticket for the trip back home...I should have done that it's not that expensive it shows intent to return and you can cancel or re-book it. Also this gives you a better chance of being let in with no big problems...then you extend your visa from within...take it from me being stuck at the border for almost 3 hours not pleasant!
