Hi Everyone:
I applied for refugee protection in Canada a year ago ~ My hearing is still coming up. The situation that forced me to leave my country has completely changed, thus I decided to withdraw my refugee claim. I have some questions and, I would appreciate clear answers from someone who is knowledgeable about this situation.

1) Can I download the withdrawal form and submit it through email to the RPD or do I have to go to their office?

2) How long does it take to accept my withdrawal form?

3) Should I wait for the deportation notice? Is there any hearing?

4) Is it easy to get my passport back? If I could book a ticket very soon to leave Canada would I be able to get my passport with no issues at the airport?

5) My flight would not direct to my home country? It has usually 2 to 3 stops, how am I going to get my passport? first stop or at the last destination?

I really appreciate your kind response in advance. And all the best.

1. You can fill withdraw form and mail to IRB. Call registry for a follow up once delivered.
2. No idea how long it takes, but I assume this wont stop you from leaving the country once you submit
3. No hearing, contact CBSA to request your passport at the airport. You must book flight ticket at this stage
4. No issue, CBSA will arrange to give your passport and escort you until you board your flight
5. At first point of exit, in this case Canada...

Simba112, I really appreciate your feedback. Are you sure that I can leave the country and get my passport back as soon as I submit the withdrawal form?
*** What about the medical insurance would it be stopped right away or continue until I get the acceptance letter?

Once you submit your withdraw request, and confirm it is received by phone, book ticket and call CBSA to notify them of the withdraw and you have booked flight back home and would like to be handed back your passport at which airport. Once your request is received, your eligibility for medical insurance ceases right away... You will be out of status and your departure order become active. You need to leave within 30 days

Thanks again Simba,
Should I arrange the tickets by myself or the CBSA will do that for me? Do they require a specific direction? Do they pay for it? Also, to go back to my country there must be a first stop point in Europe would I have a problem there at the airport?

You would need to buy ticket by yourself. If 30days lapse, then departure order becomes removal order to deportation order, at that step then Government of Canada will incur cost to remove you. Be aware there are more consequencies if you dont leave voluntary within 30days.
As long as you are transiting, not leaving airport you should be okey.

Thanks a lot, Simba,

One more question if you don't mind? Should the last destination be my country? Or I can book to a country that is close to my country that doesn't require a visa for me to enter it.
In general, does the CBSA require that the ticket should be heading to the home country?

You can. As long as you dont need visa to that country. That applies only for departure order. For removal order, they will take you back to country of citizenship

Is there a reason you don’t want to land in your home country? Personally I would suggest landing in your home country.

Thank you, Tickets are way cheaper to the other country and then I can take a bus to my country.
If questioned I would mention this and if you can have the bus ticket purchased in advance that may also provide proof to both the neighbouring country and Canada that you are planning on returning to your home country.

Hi Simba,
I called the IRB regarding withdrawing the refugee application. They told me they don't have my file because I don't have the Brown paper yet. So all I need to do to withdraw my application is to contact CBSA. I went to the CBSA office and they didn't allow me to enter they told me you could call the CBSA number and get the information I needed. I called the CBSA agents several times and I didn't get clear feedback!!. Any suggestions?
