Guys,
We are relocating from Boston to Calgary. We lived in a furnished apt and therefore, don't have any big stuff such as furniture, mattress, etc. We have, however, quite a number of kitchen stuff (not knife), 5 y.o. toys, etc and packed 3 medium and 3 large boxes to send to Calgary. We are thinking sending it through UPS. My questions: Is this a good way in term of price? How about in term of paperwork? Do I need to complete form B4E when we arrive in Canada? Thx all!

Hi nick_s,

I hope UPS is expensive than USPS. I think you can hand your boxes/packages to USPS right? I have moved from west to east in USA and it took just three days for them to ship with USPS and the quality of boxes were really good. I recommend you to go with USPS. I think they have services from US to Canada as well.

I am sorry, but I have no idea of paper work. There are many seniors, hope some one will help you out here regarding this.

Wish you all good luck for your future in Canada... :)

Thanks,
Sarayu

I went to USPS with my box to check the price. Medium size box, 50 pound = $153 for cheapest service. UPS = $80. What I would like to know is whether I'd be having problem with custom? Do I need to completed the B4E custom form when we arrive at Calgary airport?

Hi nick_s,

It looks UPS is cheaper than USPS for international. As long as you have all general items, it should not be any problem with customs. However please be waited to see if any other seniors reply here.

sarayu,
looks like only you have time and interested responding to my message :) i think i figure it out myself. no one, so far, give a comprehensible explanation to me therefore i hope someone can attest the following: (note: i already have an address in calgary)
1. i need to send my stuff (in this case by UPS) to myself, to my name with my address in calgary.
2. fill out B4 form when arriving in canada
3. if somehow custom withhold my stuff and needed to collect tax or anything I can bring my B4 form which has been stamped by the immigration officer as an evidence that all those stuff is personal items and should not be taxed.

in another words, recipient name on the box, which shipped through UPS, has to be the same with the name on B4 form. I was thinking to send those boxes to my landlord in calgary, but, i wonder, if my logic is true, then what about the following scenario where someone send their belongings to someone else, their friends where they'd be staying temporarily for example?

Try getting quotes from upack.com. They have a freight/Shipping cube I believe.

koolkarmaguy,
I'm all set with UPS. Thx for responding. Just wondering re my last question about whether it'd be a problem if we send goods to follow to someone else whose name don't match with our B4 form.

Hi nick_s:
You need to have the your name on the goods to follow. It's a one-time concession that Canadian government is giving to the new residents to bring their goods tax free inside the country. To answer your question, the names should match.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi all,
I'm flying to Calgary tomorrow but started sending boxes since Tuesday through UPS. I put myself as shipper and receiver. Today I got a call from UPS Canada asking me to call them. I called and they asked me why did I send those boxes to Canada. I told them its all my personal effects because I'm moving to Canada. UPS told me that it is the shipper responsibilities to clear custom. Anyone has any experience with this situation?
I'm just afraid custom will put any taxes/fees on my stuff. Thx all!
