evisa is valid for only 60 day max stay. In my case our tickets are book for more than 60 days. In order to get the Indian visa or OCI, we need to surrender Indian passport first. We don't have enough time to surrender Indian passport after taking the Canadian citizenship Oath.

I do not know. there are contradicting statements on the BLS website too.. as quoted below

I just wanted to share what my friend went through - he was forced to return home from the airport and then go to the passport office resolve the issue. many people have share similar stories on this forum.
I think it is a difficult situation to be in - arguing with an indian border officer when you are trying to catch a plane back.
Was your friend travelling back to Canada within 3 months grace period?

how many days do you have after oath?
I had my test done couple of days ago. As per immigration officer, i can expect Oath invitation sometime in Summer. We have tickets booked for July till end of September. I raised this query, just to prepare myself ahead of time, either reschedule the Oath (once we have the invitation) or use both Indian & Canadian passport to travel to India & use that 3 months grace period clause to avoid any issue while coming back to Canada.

ah ok. surrender certificate is taking a week time. So unless you dont go to expedited canadian passport.. you should have your surrender certificate around the same time as your canadian passport..My spouse applied for her surrender certificate the same day as the oath and BLS said, they could process entry visa/tourist visa too if needed. I dont know how they could do that without Canadian passport but you can always check it with them.

Thanks for the reply but it all depends when i will get my Oath ceremony. If the Oath is couple of weeks prior to my travel then there is no chance i can surrender my Indian passport & get the Indian travel visa. Moreover evisa which i can get with in 2-3 days but only valid for 60 days stay & our stay in India is more than 60 days.
Do you think rescheduling Oath is a better option?
Will Canadian immigration accept this as a solid reason for rescheduling?

well, there are conflicting messages in the forums.. some say don't reschedule it as it may get delayed for a longer period while some say it is ok. I never saw a case who rescheduled their oath for travel purposes.. most people reschedule their travel. Given you are in Ontario and usually, there is a long wait time there compared to other provinces I think.

I have no issue if there is long delay after Oath reschedule.
But will Canadian immigration accept this reason for rescheduling?

I dont think it will be long now, you would be able to get you oath pretty soon(fingers crossed). If you apply in person(urgent) for passport they should give it very soon.

I am not sure if you can get e-visa and then apply for an extention from within india. may be a good idea to explore.

Good luck!

Hi guys. Thanks for the discussion here. I have a question on the eVisa for India. I usually go to India for only 2-3 weeks and I have a scheduled travel to India later this year.
Lets say I got my citizenship on May 4, I apply for Indian Passport Surrender on May 7(& also for canadian passport expedited on May 8). Can I apply for Indian evisa as soon as I receive my Canadian passport? Or do I have to wait for the surrender certificate? I only need a one time visa for round trip visit and I can deal with the OCI etc later on. My buffer time to get the e-Visa is about a week.

@Kan_Sri and others any thoughts on this scenario?

Hi Guys
I am stuck in a same kind of situation, I got the citizenship on May 24 and got my passport on 12th June 2018, now I want to travel India end of June and don't know exactly what to do, should I apply for the visa and keep the Indian passport with me and surrender after I come back because one of the requirements is to submit landing paper which I have lost, it takes 3 months to get vos from Canadian Immigration, but I don't have enough time to wait, can I use both Indian and Canadian passport for the trip because I am coming back in a month before 3 months grace period which is mentioned in CGI website, I assume I can enter India with Indian Passport and come back to Canada with the Canadian passport but what happens if immigration officer in India asks for the entry stamp on Canadian passport and visa. Very confused as its hard to trust these guys. Does anyone has ever gone through this situation before and what was the result..
