Time to get Permanent Resident Travel from Canadian Embassy in US

How long it takes to get a Permanent Resident Travel document- PRT from Canadian Embassy in USA.

I will be going to US for a month, while waiting for my first PR CARD.
Can I just go to NewYork Canadian Embassy and get it issued at the counter?

This is not an answer to your question (since I don't know and I doubt a lot of people would have that data point).

Will it be easier to drive across the border with your COPR? You do not need the PR card to enter Canada that way.
