Waiting does suck! We applied in JUNE and got PPR today (10 months later ::)) but it is SO WELL WORTH EVERY moment. We are lucky that we have met and married the person who we want to be with for the rest of our lives. That's what got us through every moment. The glass IS half full!

Jessibee,

When was the date of the email of PPR (the one that went to the wrong email address)? Can you tell when it was sent out? Or was it sent today and you received it because you had previously opened an email account with the email address CIC incorrectly had on record for you? Smart thinking- to open an account with that address and have it forward to your correct address. SO glad you had CAIPS notes to know that!

Congrats!

I guess I don't officially have the AOR then. Just the E-cas confirmation that Buffalo received my application. Hopefully the AOR with my file # is in the mail! ::)

I think that's the official AOR right now. The Buffalo office is in the middle of a computer system upgrade. So the December-January have had to wait 2-3 months to receive an AOR, but the February-April groups have been receiving them as soon as their applications are received by Buffalo.

My AOR came by e-mails, but I am in the December group and waited two months for it. To the best of my understanding, the new AOR's are an eCAS update like you received.

Now... having said all that, I have no idea how the new group receives their file number. That's a great point. ::) Maybe they do send you a mail AOR, or perhaps they will e-mail it to you when your application moves to In Process. Or maybe it will come with your Initial Assessment.

Tough to know how the "new system" works, compared to the "old system". I hope that things become more consistant.

Thanks! I'm so glad we got CAIPS notes - JUST for that, because we didn't find any other information on them that actually helped us. The PPR was sent this morning, to the wrong address, and auto-forwarded to my husband's actual e-mail. Phew!

He is going to the Buffalo consulate tomorrow - we're in Toronto so it makes more sense to do that than to mail it in. I feel like I can't let myself celebrate until he is HERE and landed!

How long ago did you request them? I sent my request middle of march and still nothing...

That's good to know Quakingaspen. It seemed like the E-cas confirmation would count as my AOR. I'll just wait to see if they mail or e-mail my file #. I'm hoping this new computer system speeds things along.

Hello everyone,

I've been finding this site helpful, so I decided to join :D. I'm a Canadian citizen from Toronto, and my husband is a US citizen from Buffalo. We have been together for almost two years, and married for 9 months (we both don't have any children). My husband visits me three weekends a month and I visit his family in Buffalo about once a month. As you can imagine, this is exhausting and even expensive. :'(

We submitted a complete application to Immigration Canada on Feb 4, 2011, with everything in it except for my husband's medicals (which were forwarded in Dec 2010). I was approved for sponsorship and received a letter on March 10, 2011. According to ecas our application has been forwarded to the visa office in Buffalo and they received it on March 17, 2011. I am waiting for AOR, does anyone know how long it takes to receive an AOR?

Thanks & I've including my timeline for anyone curious.

Love-Buf-Wings,

My file was transferred on March 24, and the CIC website said they received it on April 7, so about 2 weeks. According to member Quakingaspen this can be considered the AOR (your husbands file # should arrive by either mail or e-mail). Hope this helps. BTW, I love Buffalo Wings, Too! :D

Yay! Another border couple! (only reversed... I'm from Buffalo, Husband is in Toronto :) )

I feel your pain on the back and forth visiting. We've been doing that for 7 years now, although I've been spending most of my time on the north side of the border since we were married last year.

AOR's seem to be a hard thing to estimate now. I was part of the mid-December group that seemed to get held up in the CIC's big computer update. Our file was transferred to Buffalo on Jan. 18, but I didn't get the AOR until March 31. I can't give you any kind of estimate, but don't worry... The most consistent thing about CIC is their inconsistency! ;D

Thanks guys for having these posts, they comfort me in knowing I'm not the only one out there. I live in Vancouver, BC, my husband lives in Sacramento, CA. So it's not just a weekend drive away :( All we get to rely on are web chats, and a visit once every 6-8 weeks, and travel out of Vancouver is not cheap.
I hope it all goes smoothly because time spent apart sure depresses me :'(

Your situation is similar to me and my husband's. We saw each other about once every 6-8 weeks, as well. We felt lucky that we got to see each other that often, we kept telling ourselves that at least we weren't on different ends of the world!

The only piece of mail that was actually sent to my husband's address was his Initial Assessment. The passport request was sent by e-mail. The thing with CIC is that they are pretty inconsistent, though, so keep your eyes peeled either way!
