amine01 - sometimes when they send you a letter to ask for another piece of information they will put on it "at this time it does not appear that a personal interview will be required" or something like that. But if you never get a request for more info, then you may never know until you get your PPR or interview request! Many of us here (including myself) got our PPR's without anything ever mentioning an interview.

@ SaugaBoss - what makes you think US immigration is any easier? The US is the one who is pressuring Canada to tighten their border security...
i know what u mean but it would be reverse roles my husband would be the one stressing more lol jk...but idk i feel like the US u can always call urgovenor or congressman or w/e to get statuses i know a lot of ppl who sponsored spouses just feel like canada wit these bckground checks r weird some ppl longer than others... but ur right usa r more strict

just some thought to you saugabosss

if you never receive a request for some information about ya in maximum ( and i said maximum ) 2 month

you will be goood and finish soooon !
thanks for the encouragement... i hope sobc i think they just did email me a generic letter but why did they say the lengthy part (mind u the 1 year check is an assumption the CSIS told me... they dont have any info they just said it takes 1 year or more and i said no thats not true so many pplget sponsored quicker she said thats bc they are the lucky ones?)

so im trusting the fact a lot of ppl r saying that its just a generic email bc they didnt have an update so said im at the background check part

IT STILL BOTHERS ME THEY SAID IT CAN BE LENGTHY :(

My husband went to Windsor this week to get his fingerprints taken digitally for an RCMP record check, as per Buffalo's instructions to do so. Does anyone know how much time this process adds to the application? They said the record check takes 72 hours to complete when it is done digitally. Will the IO just wait until the revisit date to open our file again?

What does it mean when they ask for an RCMP record check? My husband has spent time in Canada over the years and did study for a semester in Montreal. Could this be why? I'm not worried about his record but I wonder why they would ask for this.

Thanks so much! And congrats to those who are getting their PR stamps!
interestingggggg it probably is bc he lived there...i never lived worked or studied anywhere but the US and never got thiskind of request

I HAVE NEWS!!!!!!!!

I received my PPR via E-mail today!!! I have until October 20th to submit my passport. I'll be traveling to Buffalo in the very near future to take care of the last step! I'm so excited about this, as is my wife!

Any tips on what I should be bringing, other than the 3 requested photos?
I took my passport in person. I suggest you plan to be at the office before it opens (like 7-7:15 am). There will most likely already be a line forming in the lobby. The guard will ask why you are here and check your passport. He will escort about 10 people up at a time. When you get there, they will ask for your cell phones and tell you which window to line up at (depending on your purpose). When it`s your turn you will submit your passport, pics, and PPR letter. I think they asked some questions too. Then you are sent to the waiting room. It takes about 2 hours. Meanwhile, you can watch people going in for interviews, read a book, etc. After about 2 hours they start calling several people to one room. You line up and they give you back your passport and some papers explaining SIN, health card, etc. Then they tell you to wait a few hours before attempting to cross the border while the computers are being updated.

That's it. Landing takes about 15 minutes if there is no wait. They take your papers, passport, etc ask some questions, confirm your name, contact info etc, do some stuff in the computer. Then you are off to customs to declare any goods to import, and then you are DONE except for coming back here to report your experience. Congratulations. Allison

I recently changed my mailing address via email because I will be moving to Toronto to wait out the remaining time on my passport request (Outland PR Family Class). Subsequently I check ECAS to make sure there were no mistakes on the address but when I got there I noticed they had changed the mailing address correctly including the number, street, postal code and "Toronto, ON" but "United States of America" was also included as the last line of the address.

I was wondering what all of you thought about sending an email asking for them to change the USA part to Canada or if doing this may slow down the processing of our application?

Really, we are wondering if we should bother changing. We have some concerns:
1) If we keep the address as it appears on ecas currently will we get important mail still? (we've mostly been getting emails)
2) If we do send an email to update the address will this cause a delay in the processing of our application?

(We were recently transferred from Buffalo to the New York office in order to "expedite" the processing of our application.)

Thanks in advance!

It was a long wait...it's finally our turn to finish this process! Good luck - I would expect any day now (probably a few days delayed if they mailed your PPR)

Still consider yourself lucky i filed before you and started process before you and we are still waiting. All cases are different, that we know but it's always painful to see people getting it before you when they had to wait less and lately i saw too many of those.

Has anybody here just used regular mail to send in their passports? I don't think we can use Fedex because we don't have a credit card and someone said you have to do it online...I don't understand why. ARGH...I am terrified they will be lost in the mail :-[

Have you considered UPS? You could ship it from a UPS store and pay however you like.

Detroit won't accept UPS if I remember correctly?

I sent my passport to LA via regular post. I just used a fancy cardboard envelope thing that they have there in the post office. I was too afraid to use a regular plain envelope.

@ frenchrock - I understand your frustration, buddy :( unfortunately Quebec apps always take longer, though.
Hang in there!!
