Thank you all!!!! Just when I gave up, the PPR came... lol!!!

Pharoh... you should be next.

To all those people who are still waiting, please know you are always in our prayers. Wishing for faster processing.

My ecas still says "in process".

Hubby will take a 4 hours flight to Buffalo next Monday, to get the visa for Tuesday. I really hope he can get it the same day as his flight is at 7pm Tuesday.

He will land March 19th. The cheapest flight we found is for him to land in Seattle, and I'll pick him up to drive here in Vancouver. Would this be a problem? Instead of air directly to his port of entry, we will land by land????

Just found out why we are delayed. My partner just had a phone call from Immigration. They were asking him if he has ever applied for permanent residence in Canada before. He hasn't. Apparently, there is someone with the same name (very common name) and the same birth date that got landed immigrant status in the 1980's. Because of this, they want my partner to have his fingerprints taken and he will have to have an RCMP check to verify that he is a different person.

Does anyone know how long the RCMP check takes? Immigration are sending him the fingerprint kit he needs and information of what to do. Sounds like once this is verified, he will be approved. I am guessing we will be waiting for another month or so. Not happy about the delay but at least I know what the problem is. It was the not knowing that was the hardest to take.

hey jen,

We do the RCMP finger print check for our empoyees and it can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. I had someone that had gone into get the check and was told 10 days and that was in Jan. She still has not recieved it upto date..

Also it varies from province to province really.. We're based in Toronto, ON so the backlog is crazy insane... But again, my examples is based on finger printing for employment and the process for something like this (Immi) might not take that long. Ur best bet is it call RCMP and ask them as they will be able to give u a more accurate answer.

I just checked the RCMP website and it says 12 weeks for paper copies but 2-3 business days for electronic submissions. I am wondering if it is worth him flying out to Canada and have it done electronically as they do no accept electronic fingerprints from outside the country. Still trying to decide what to do. Thanks again for your reply.

I know at least one person here got their RCMP check done same-day, in a matter of hours. She went to Buffalo for an interview, and they asked for RCMP afterward. The IO said she'd put in the request, and a couple hours later, got the results back, and gave PR that very day.

You might be able to look around for some kind of RUSH service... perhaps not through RCMP directly, but there has to be places you can go which offer expedited background checks (e.g. they have a deal with RCMP, someone knows someone, etc).

Please don't be discouraged.

Thanks Pharoh. In a strange way I do feel better than I did because I know what the problem is and we can do something about it. Also I know it isn't something that we did wrong, he just has a common name (and birthdate!) Just rotten luck I suppose. Still trying to talk him into flying to Canada to get it done quickly. I am not keen on waiting 12 weeks or more but then they might go faster with immigration cases compared to employment ones. Interesting how you know someone who got it done so fast! I might give the RCMP a call to ask if the processing times are quicker for immigration.

Got a letter in the mail today. It got my hopes up thinking it was PPR. Still good news, they've received my medicals and no further documents needed. Interview waived. I am far behind many November Applicants receiving this nearly a month after some of you received this letter. Oh well, they said they are closer to finalizing my file (but we know how that goes) The waiting continues....

Hey everyone, so in the last 36 hours I was emailed by canadian high commission to post passport, booked flight to UK, packed, slept 3 hours, got papers together, sped to airport, detained in US customs 1hr , flew to phili, flew to manchester, scared my sister, train 6 hrs later 2 london, went 2 high commission, caught the train back to manchester ARGGGH soooo tired!!
I asked the security guard to put a good word in for all those people waiting. It turns out that the high commission is only actually open between 9am and 11am and the rest of the time they do visa passport issuing, which explains some of the timelines! Also gives comfort to those waiting on their passports. They were really nice only queued for an hour, people were walking out with their passports and jumping in the air for joy, i nearly cried!!!! I cant wait to go and get it in two weeks and spend the rest of my life not waiting for the postman!! Fingers crossed to all those still waiting.

Thanks Shorttalk. The conversation with the IO did sound promising although they wouldn't commit to anything. But they did say they would be ready to make a decision once the RCMP check goes through. I figured if there was anything else wrong, they would have asked some more info or mentioned an interview at that point. Oh well, time will tell. I feel so much more relaxed not obsessively checking email and eCas now! Bit more of a wait but we will get there. Get some sleep now!!! lol You must be shattered but it will be so worth it! When do you go back to Canada?
