@ Mrs....Thank you... I haven't heard this one in a while.

So I have decided to go to Ghana to spend some time with my African Man ;D... Does anyone have any experience in speaking with someone from the Accra office? Will this be beneficial or a waste of time?

P.S. I have not forgotten about my needed contribution for the letter. I am just having a hard time trying to focus and intelligently articulate my frustration. All I want to say is.... I HATE CANADIAN IMIGRATION!! I'm not sure how helpful this would be.... :-[

I miss my African man sooooooo much. Enjoy your time with your husband. And enjoy Ghana...I miss being there 8)

Just enjoy your time there...and collect some more proof in case it is needed

As for the the Visa Office...i had absolutely no success with them at allllllll. They are not helpful nor considerate of us. My best advice, when you are there and if you drive on that road, just say a prayer as you pass the embassy. You know you have done your very best and you are with your husband. God will bless your process.

When my husband and I were in Accra on vacation one year, we did go in to 'check' on our application. My husband thought that since I am a Canadian, I would be able to speak to someone. I knew it wouldn't help, but agreed to try. So we went there. One of the guards asked us what we wanted, and we told him. He said we couldn't go in. Another guard came over and told me that if I asked to speak to a consular officer because I was a Canadian who needed help, they would let me in. So I did that, and talked to a very pleasant Canadian official. She explained that she was in the consular section, not the visa section, and so could not help us.
So it was a waste of time. But: the notation that my husband and I showed up on our CAIPS notes, which is some proof that we were travelling together. (The visa officer and the judge at the appeal seemed to think I was travelling around West Africa by myself.)

Hey, I was just wondering for those of you who are 'Canadian Citizens' visiting your husbands/wives in Ghana, what type of invitation letter did you attain in order to get your traveling visa for Ghana? I only ask because previous trips have always been through an NGO that I've worked for and so the invitation letter has come through them. This time it would strictly be to visit with my husband for multiple months.

Has anyone run into any hold ups or problems if your husband writes the invitation letter stating you are coming to visit him? I know it's a lot easier to get into Ghana than Canada (obviously) but just wanted to check what others had encountered or done.

Just wondering. Thank!

Any update on the letter?
I was super interested in writing/contributing. I still am but time is a huge factor for me. Work has been eventful lately and a two year old is a lot of work! I've been pretty depressed lately but maybe writing/contributing to the letter will be therapeutic.

I will try to get to my computer this evening.

I always got a letter from my boyfriend/fiance stating that I was going to visit him (the last one stated that I was going there to get married) and would be staying in his house. I drafted the letter myself, indicating my travel dates, his address and phone number. I would send it to him by email, he would sign it, scan it and email it back to me. I printed it out and submitted it with the visa application.

It was that simple!

Okay wow, that's great. Thanks Mrs. I guess Ghana VO doesn't worry about us Canadians 'staying too long' or 'becoming a flight risk', eh [insert roll of eyes here]. Thanks again.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, so excited guys, finally

Dear .........................................

YOUR IMMIGRANT VISA(S) APPEAR READY TO BE ISSUED, IF THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE IN YOUR FAMILY CONFIGURATON. IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY CHANGES, PLEASE CONTACT OUR OFFICE BEFORE PROCEEDING.

You are asked to submit your passport(s) and documentation BY COURIER within 30 days. We would strongly recommend by DHL courier using a pre-paid return envelope, which is reliable and avoids the inconvenience of waiting in line outside the High Commission of Canada in Accra.

Alternately, you may also appear IN PERSON within 30 days at the Canadian High Commission in Accra from Monday to Thursday, at 8:00 a.m, for visa collection. You must bring this letter with you. If collected in person, the visa will be issued the same day.

Please note that our office is closed for public holidays, which include some Canadian and some Ghanaian holidays. Please verify the list of holidays on our website, to ensure that our office is open on the day you intend to visit:
http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/ghana/contact-contactez

The visa(s) will be valid until the expiry of your medical results on 5th, July 2013 or until the expiry of your passports, whichever is earliest.

As the validity of your visa(s) has been already established and is limited to a fixed date, it CANNOT be extended under any circumstances. We therefore urge you to read and follow carefully the instructions below without delay:

PLEASE NOTE:
Failure to provide the required travel document(s) within 30 days from the date of this letter will lead us to conclude that you are no longer interested in immigrating to Canada and your application will be refused based the information that is available in your file. Once the application is refused, you would be able to reapply, but you would be required to submit a new application and pay a new processing fee. The new application would be assessed according to the Canadian Immigration legislations in force at the time that the new application was filed.

Please note that we will strive to meet the foregoing service standards. There may, however, be occasions when we cannot issue your visas within these standards. Accordingly, you are advised not to commit to any travel plans, purchase tickets, or take any irrevocable action such as selling property, or resign employment until you have received your immigrant visas..

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION WILL BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE YOUR VISA:

PASSPORT

An updated Police Clearance

An updated Additional Family Information form (IMM5406)

An updated schedule A IMM5669 background information form. Please do not leave any gaps in months or years. For questions 8(personal history) and 12(addresses), please start from when you turned 18 years

Updated family information: you must advise us of any change in your marital status or family composition. All family members must be listed on your IMM8 application form. Failure to comply may result in a delay in the issuance of your visa.

PASSPORTS. Check that:

There is an individual passport for each family member accompanying you to Canada. Children must have their own passport.

Each passport is valid for at least 6 months from the time you come for the visa.

Each passport has sufficient free pages (two required for our visa, plus pages for any transit visa)

TWO (2) PHOTOS FOR EACH FAMILY MEMBER These photographs must be taken with a WHITE BACKGROUND, not be stapled, glued or pinned (you can paperclip or attach them using an envelope). The photographs must be unblemished as they will be used to produce your Permanent Resident Card once you are in Canada. Photograph specifications are included with this letter.

REMEMBER TO BRING THIS LETTER WITH YOU.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CITIZENS OF NIGERIA

E-Passport: We will only accept applications that include an e-passport. The Government of Nigeria has informed us that effective Dec 31, 2010 the older style of Nigerian Passport is no longer valid, regardless of the validity date on the passport. As we will only insert a visa in a passport with at least 6 months validity, we have stopped accepting the older style passport and require applicants to submit the new e-passport.

Thank you for the interest you have shown in Canada.

Regards,

Immigration Section (SSA)
