I know Family isn't the right forum to ask, but I can't find out much in the Taxation forum.

When I start working, would it be simpler, taxation wise, to keep my own checking and savings account separate from my Canadian fiance? Originally my fiance and I were going to open joint checking and savings accounts, but I've read that it may complicates things. Again though, I'm not 100% sure.

At some point before tax day I'd like to talk to a consultant up here, but that's still a little ways away.

Your chequing and savings accounts have absolutely nothing to do with filing Canadian taxes. It's completely irrelevant.

Thanks for the info. I had thought the issue was what my name was on. If there's no problem and it won't affect my fiance, we'll just go ahead with our plan to have joint accounts.

Bump! If I could get any clarification on this, I would appreciate it. If all goes well I'll be working soon, so I want to be sure I can just have joint accounts with my fiance with no hassle come tax season. Thank you all for your wonderful help.

Why would the accounts matter? It's what your spouse makes that matters as far as I know. That's what they hounded me about for the GST tax credit.
