Successful PR applying OUTLAND while being in canada as TOURIST all time.

I got my PR this week yaaaaa! I had to wait 16 months for it and i would have never done it without the help of this forum. thank you so much to everyone that shares their knowledge here.

It took me a lot of time to figure out how to stay in canada as tourist (i extended my stay 3 times successfully) and apply OUTLAND for PR at the same time.
Both applications contradict each other a little and seem very confusing. However by being honest you can always apply to extend tourist visa even mentioning that you want to stay to be in a common law relationship with your partner so you can apply for PR.

The tricky part is having to mention on all tourist extensions that you have no intentions to stay in canada LONGER than they allow you too. While on PR application you are mentioning that you are in common law, is a real relationship and that you want to be together in Canada.

I applied on the common-law category, outland through Mexico since the waiting time was less than inland and for me it worked out great, if you dont need a work visa while on canada it is definitely the best option.

If anyone is on the same situation or confused about being able to apply outland and being in canada at the same time, please let me know if i can help.
I would have loved to find someone on same situation as me and this is a way to pay back for all the help i had in this forum.

Best luck to everyone :)

Great to hear your news!!! Comgratulations! So this is my doubt, I am planning
on getting married next Summer in Canada. My fiance and I still deeply thinking about what the best option should be for me to apply PR
I hold a VISITOR MULTIPLY entry visa valid for 10 years since 2014...
Everytime I enter Canada I am allowed to stay for 180 days... How did you do to extend your "visitor time"?
Did you do it before it expires or after? How many days did they give you each time? Finally are you from Latin America? I am Argentinian so I think the processing center for PR is Mexico city if we apply outland...
Thanks for answering

I think I can answer your question. It's best to apply about a month before your visitor status expires. You can technically send it even the day before, but they have to receive it by the time your status ends. One month gives you plenty of time just in case anything unexpected happens (it gets lost in the mail, returned, etc), but I wouldn't apply any sooner than a month before. Of course, this is if you want to actually *stay* in Canada for more than the 180 days.

I probably do that, and change my return flight ticket, once I am in Canada, as far as they give me more time to be with my husband. My idea is to be in Canada from June to March... Applied outland for PR and return to my country to wait for the final decition

No problem :). When it comes to extending visitor status CIC tends to be more lenient if a person has a PR application in the words, so you can write a note saying that you would like to continue visiting while you wait for PR. You can always leave earlier than the time they give you as well. It's good to include a letter from your spouse saying that they will support you while you are in Canada.

Hi!

Seems they are answering all your questions but yeah make sure you applied before it expires. I always applied online so had no issue with papers being lost on mail. I tried to apply 20 days before it expired.
They gave me 6 months extension each time. Last one it took them forever to answer but I didn't had to leave canada I was on implied status until I got a response.

I am from mexico so yeah I applied Outland through mexico office. Seems we are on similar situations. It took them almost 14 months to give me PR but I never had to leave canada so was worth it.
Let me know if there's anything else I csn help with. Best luck!!

I am trying to do that as well, I applied for extension on October and for PR on November, I know it is recommended to apply for PR first, but my timeline got messed up, so I needed to apply for extension, so I didn't mention my PR, as I didn't know the day I will apply :)
I am still waiting for them to aprove my extension, it takes forever :-X but it will be only my second extension so I hope they will extent it even without me mentioning that I applied for PR.

Could you walk me through what you included in your visitor visa extension application?

I am also about to be in a similar situation. I applied for PR (Outland) today and my wife's visitor visa expires in July 2016. We want to remain together while her PR is being processed as we have a child together (6 months old) and would not want to be separated.

Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for posting this thread!

Well done amhel! 16 months sounds almost like an inland application though.
Was it easy to extend 3 times? We have done it only once while waiting for PR, I am just wondering if CIC has consecutive hidden rules after the first extension expires.
