Dear Forum Friends.

Have a question for you and will appreciate your valuable feedback, If I were to come to Canada on an Student Visa to Study in a College for a 1 year Diploma course lets say that has evening classes or weekend classes, can I still look for a Job in Canada and work as an full time 9 am to 5 pm Employee ? If that is the case how does it work ? and will my Student Visa be converted to an Work Permit Visa ?

For your information I am am currently residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and I am an IT Specialist/Professional with already several years’ experience working for Multinational companies in Dubai with an Bachelors and Masters Degree.

I had already enrolled myself in the Canadian Express Entry System and also completed my IELTS will overall 7.0

Appreciate your help on this
Thanks Again
Sam

No - it doesn't work that way.

If want to get a study permit to come to Canada to study and want to also be able to work - you must be a full time student (not part time). Also, you can only work a maximum of 20 hours per week off campus. So no - you certainly cannot be a 9 to 5 employee.

If you want to be a 9 to 5 employee, you need to come to Canada on a work permit instead. To come to Canada on a work permit, you must first secure a full time job offer and approved LMIA with a Canadian employer. Then you can apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer.

Ok Thanks for the information

Now lets say I Study for a full time 2 year diploma course in Canada, am I then eligible for an open work permit to work in Canada once I complete my course ? If so what are the general restrictions of this type of permit ? Does this type of work permit counts as additional points on my Express Entry Profile ?

Thanks

If you're an international student studying 2 years diploma course in Canada, You'll get 3 years Open work permit. for Open work permit you can work for any employer. Work permit doesn't count any points but you have to gain experience on open work permit under job category NOC 0, A or B but for your 2 years diploma study, you will get 15 points in EE. :)

Thanks

Thank You krunal2904 that is very good info

My plans anyways is to work after I finish my studies in Canada. So once I get lets say 2 Years Experience in IT Sector Industry in Canada on my Post Graduate Work Permit, will that experience count on my Express Entry Profile overall points as well ?

At the moment my overall Express Entry Points is 395

Definitely bro, any experience in NOC 0, A or B job category that you have gained while your open work permit, it will count in EE entry. As you're an IT person, you have a good chance to get good job.

I am an IT person as well. if you need more info, Please let me know.

Thanks,
Krunal
