Folks,
My parents visit my brother in Canada every year. They are doing it since 2007. They applied visit visa in 2007 and got a multiple for 2 year. Then they re-applied in 2009 and got it again for 2 year. Then they re-applied in 2011 and got it again for 2 years, which has expired now.
They visit Canada every year for 2 months, and my brother always buy their 2 months travel insurance which is 150 $ per person as compared to 2000 $ per person for Super Visa.
Now they are thinking to apply for Super Visa ,which is very expensive or they can still apply for a normal visit visa ?Their passports are full of visas fom USA, Canada and other countries.
Or the big question is that can they still apply for a normal visit visa or they have to apply for super visa?
Please advise.

Regards

They can still apply for a normal visit visa. They don't have to apply for a super visa.

Dear FishBurger,

Now it's clearly mentioned that you need Medical Insurance for minimum of one year for Super Visa but not the travel insurance.

Thanks,

Please note that if you are a visitor to Canada and buy Travel Insurance for that purpose, the type of policy you are purchasing is a "Visitor to Canada" Policy. It is the same policy, regardless of if you are arriving under a Super Visa, any other type of Visa, or indeed without a Visa. The only thing that makes a "Visitor to Canada" policy into a "Super Visa Insurance" policy is that it must be for a minimum face amount of $100,000 and provide for a minimum of 365 days of coverage.

If you purchase a "regular" Visitor to Canada Policy, and if it is for $100,000 of coverage, it will cost the same amount PER DAY as a "Super Visa Insurance" policy. If you leave Canada to return home prior to 365 days, in most cases there will be a proportional refund available, resulting in the exact same cost PER DAY as the other policy. HOWEVER, you can save some money by purchasing a lower amount of insurance, and you can buy it for only the days you need if you are arriving under a regular Visa, as the CIC does not have the same requirements for those Visa's. It should also be noted that you can save money by choosing a deductible for your policy, much the same way as you do with Car Insurance - the higher the deductible, the lower the premium.

If you need more clarification please respond here, visit our website at http://travelinsure.ca, or call me.

I too am a travel insurance (specialist) broker

Everything that Tracy (above) has suggested is true. Although he has failed to point out that if they are coming to Canada under a regular two year multi-entry visitor visa (and then perhaps travelling somewhere else as well), they will in most cases be better off buying th :eek:eir 'travel medical insurance' in their home country.

If they are applying for the super visa (allows longer trips, and has potentially lower application fees as it can be issued for up to ten years), then they will need to use a Canadian insurance company. In that regard, using a broker that looks at the widest possible selection of policies will help to ensure that you don't overlook a policy with a lower price, or one with better coverage. BestQuote Travel Insurance Agency, with it's online quote engine (wider selection than Tracy - sorry T man) presents the polices in a simple format, with easy comparisons. Just get a quote to see (click on the summary tab to view exact comparisons of policy features such as pre-existing medical condition coverage etc.): http://www.bestquotetravelinsurance.ca/parent-and-grandparent-super-visa-health-insurance

Or, call 1-888-888-0510 with any questions!
