The published processing times for this category are pretty long. I would plan on a minimum three year wait - likely more.

Hi,

I have applied on the same category as a jewelry designer, mailed my application last March 21, 2013 and received an e-mail from CIO last April 12, 2013 infroming me that they have received my application and has forwarded it to the mission in Manila. Until now I'm waiting for any updates thru e-CAS but status is still Application Received. I think processing time in Manila Office might take longer than CIC office. Though I know little about the processing time. Just want to ask if it is a good sign already?

The processing time for this immigration stream is very long. Because so few people immigrate through this category, very few processing times are published on the CIC web site. However based on what I've seen on this forum, you should expect a long wait (4 years+).

Thanks for the info. Just want to know as well if CIC has forwarded your application to Manila, is it a good sign that I have passed 1 stage of screening? That from eligibility criteria, CIC finds my application eligible? I have a friend that was rejected by CIC because his job description does not match that of the required by Canada. Does CIC check on eligibility or just the completeness of your documents? They have also charged my card for the processing fee already btw. Please advise. Thanks

No - it this doesn't mean you have passed all of the eligibility criteria. It just means your application is complete. It will be a while before CIC reviews your application to confirm if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Thanks sycilla. So eligibility really happens in the visa office like here in Manila and not CIC? CIC just checks on the completeness? If I am not eligible can I get a refund?

Hi Scylla,

Can you please help me understand this category as I'm a bit confused? Do you think I'm eligible to apply as I employed rather than self-employed but I fall under category of major group 52 - Technical occupations in art, culture & sports.

Appreciate our kind thoughts.

Regards,

I can only share my personal experience with self-employed "artist" category.
It is this: I found it nearly impossible to piece together my work in a 30 hour per
week manner, as required by the CIC. It took me three weeks of parsing through all
income reciepts and marking off days on a calendar.
Self-employed, yes. Regular earnings, well perhaps 40 weeks out of 52 per year.
Is that going to count towards "full time" as in 30 hrs. per week for ONE year?
Conclusion: Just the luck of the draw, and VERY difficult to fit into the CIC
"starting from today" and going backwards format.
How many actors, performers, artists can prove 30 hours per week.

Would be interested in any ideas/feedback on that topic.

I guess there is a point system in the self employed category of at least 35. If you passed this, then maybe you can write a letter of appeal or consideration as I have read on somewhere I cannot remember, I think that was in CIC website.

Attention all performing artists:

The Canadian Actor's Union WILL NOT BUDGE on giving temporary membership.
They allowed us to audition for a period of time, on per job fee basis, but then pulled
a lucrative commercial right out from under me.
Reason: "You are not allowed to accept commercials." Had I been allowed to audition? YES.
Had I ever been informed of this stipulation: No
And yes, I am a member in good standing for over 20 yr.s w/sister union.
So be careful - even though the "class" exists, it is near impossible to work enough hours to
fulfill the application requirements.
Just a warning.

Dear Sir,
I am Rajesh Kumar Saha from Bangladesh and interested to apply for immigration under Self-Employed category. I am a Leather Patter Maker which match the Self –Employed profession list (5245 – Pattern Makers – Clothing, Leather & Fur Products). I also get the required pass points. But some questions has been raised in my mind. If anyone can help me by providing the right way, I will be very grateful to him.
1. What is the maximum processing time for self – employed category immigration?
2. Is it mandatory to own a business as the experience for this self-employed category? Or working as an employee will be sufficient to count the experience?
3. Is the tax documents mandatory for application?
4. What is maximum fund have to show?
Thanking you.
