Hi
I landed with my wife last year on January 03, 2012, but we were out of the country most of the time.
my question is:
If I finish my 2 year period here, will it possible to live outside for another 3 years to maintain my PR status??????????????
All reply will be appreciated.
Thnx

Yes. But then after the three years outside of Canada then you will have to return to Canada and stay in Canada for two full years to keep your PR status.

When you apply to renew your PR card, you will have to state your travel history. If you had spent 1095 days or more outside Canada after gaining your PR or in the past 5 years if your landing was more than 5 years ago, a special explanation is required. They would excuse a longer absence only if you were 1) accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse, 2) posted to a full time position outside Canada by a Canadian employer or 3) accompanying a PR spouse who falls under 2).

Therefore, if you stay outside Canada for 3 years minus 1 day (1094 days), you are OK but you would have to spend the next full 2 years in Canada afterwards to make up.

Thanks friends for your response...
So Within 5 years time I can live outside Canada
so means
from 2012 (I landed in 2012 January) to 2017, I have to live 2 years in Canada to keep residency status and
from 2017 to 2022, another two years within 5 years.
reply me if my calculations are correct.
Thanks.

No. You have to be in Canada for 730 days in the last 1825 days at any arbitrary point in time. It doesn't work in 5 year "blocks".

Agreed. After you have been a PR for more than 5 years, you have to meet the residency requirements of at least 730 days in Canada in the past 5 years at all times.

Therefore, the 5 year period is a rolling window. For a PR who already has 5 years today, it would be 29.12.2008 to 29.12.2013. Tomorrow it would be 30.12.2008 to 30.12.2013 etc.
