Hi,

I have a few questions regarding the working holiday visa.

Im a swedish citizien and I can apply for the working holiday visa. If I apply now how long can I wait before I enter Canada? I have a canadian girlfriend since 1,5 years and we are planning for me to stay in Canada for one year starting January 2014.

My second question is if I'm allowed to enter Canada on a visitor visa this fall if I have a working holiday visa. I want to go visit my girlfriend before January 2014 but I dont want to use my working holiday visa at this point since I'm not moving until January.

My third and final question. Is the working holiday visa a multiple entry visa?

Best regards
Magnus

Im currently in Canada with a working holiday visa .Im from Germany, but Im sure the rules &regulations are pretty similar.

1. When I received my WHV they gave me a certain date by when I needed to enter Canada at the latest. I think it was one year (but Im not 100% sure on this.but you might find information on the internet)But you do need to book a flight ticket etc so they dont expect you to leave within 3 months or so.

2. You can enter with your WHV and apply for an extension as visitor at least 30 days before the WHV expires. You then might be able to stay 6 more months(or however long the visitor visa for sweden citizens is)
You could probably enter Canada on a visitor visa but to get the work permit and the stamp for your WHV you would need to leave Canada and re-enter. So in this case it would be cheaper to enter on your WHV,then apply for an extension for 75$ rather than buy flight tickets to leave/reenter.

3. I went to Germany in January while I was on my WHV. I didnt have any problems leaving and re-entering Canada.

But to be on the safe side just call CIC :)

Im about to process my application but one of the questions is regarding my marital status. Im not sure whether to put Common-Law or Single as an answer. I will live with my girlfriend from the day I enter Canada but right now I'm living alone. And if I put single will it affect any visa processes later on if I apply for a different kind of Visa after my first year in Canada?

You are only common law AFTER you have lived with her for at least one year. Have you already lived with her for at least one full year?

That answers my question because we have not lived together for one year. This means I have to put single as marital status I guess.

Thank you for answering scylla!

Yes! You're definitely still "single" for the purposes of the application you're completing.
