My son in law has a couple minor issues with his 'criminality'.
He is a US Citizen and the last time he was crossing the land border, he was told that he would need to get his 'record' in order to be allowed to cross ever again. They weren't clear whether he should be filing to get a TRV based on inadmissibility or if CBSA just wanted to see his record to make a determination of his abilty to just come visit our home here in Canada for the weekend.
He has a misdemeanor possession of marijuana from 2007. MCL 333.74032D. It was his first and only offense. He was given probation and a fine. It was all taken care of back in 2007.
He also has a misdemeaner traffic offence. It says "Operating without a license on person" as the offense. MCL 257.311.
This is all that appears on his record. So, the question is, should he see if CBSA will allow him to cross by showing them his record and that it doesn't translate out into any serious criminal code. At least I don't THINK it does, not that I could find. Or should we be filing for a TRV so he can come with his son and visit me on the weekends? LOL
I know this is hardly a crisis worthy thing, but it's important to our family. Thanks to any of you have have information specific to my questions.
