u can withdraw the fund but make sure u have good explanation for that. they usually again ask for POF at the later part of the process.

Hi Mate,

Please through some light regarding POF, as We are family of 3, so we need to take CAD-18097

We cannot carry cash more than 10000 but in whole we have to carry 18097 not less than this,

Total amount needs to be carry-18097
Cash-<10000
Rest in TC/DD

Is this correct

and if we are not able to bring total amount(18097) than what will be the action

Is this correct this is fine
and if we are not able to bring total amount(18097) than what will be the action u may be denied entry

Hello forum members,

Regarding the question on total assets and settlement funds in Schedule 3, is it sufficient to disclose a "comfortable" number? Or does this have to be ALL assets / available funds?

Thanks,
prash42

Hi,

I'm planning to land next month. I'll bring CAD 25000 with me. I've 2000 CAD DD from an Indian Bank for which I've paid INR and it is in CAD in my name. I'm also carrying 5000 cash.

As the total amount is more than $10K I believe I need to declare it, right?

One of my friends who has just landed has told me that during immigration they might scrutinize the source of my funds. Is it true? If yes, what are the supporting proofs that I need to carry for my Demand Draft?

Also, I made this DD from my father's account. Is that a problem?

Basically, I had 4 fixed deposits in my name. I cancelled 3 small ones and deposited money to my account. One had matured about a month back and I'd got a FD issued in my father's name with that money. For some reason I had to prepone my trip and to prepare funds to go I cancelled this FD that was now in my Father's name also and deposited the money to my account. Then I realized that my bank does not prepare CAD DDs so I transferred all the money to my Father's account and got the DD issued from that account.

Now the source is basically my FDs but the DD has been prepared from my father account and in one step for about one month one FD was in my Father's name. Is this whole thing a problem? Is there a chance that I need to prove this at the time of Landing? What documents should I carry with me? I've copies of my cancelled DDs. Should I carry? What else should I carry?

This is my money and my salary documents support my earnings. I'm getting worried because at the time of applying the guidelines per CIC are that the funds should be our money. As i said above this is my money but my question is do I have to prove it again now?

Don't worry too much. In 90% of all cases they will not even ask to show POF during landing. It is actually quite eventless the whole procedure..

I agree but if there is a possibility that they ask the source of funds then I would better like to be prepared and carry the necessary docs. so my first question was do they ask the source of funds at the time of landing? if they do, what additional documents should I carry as DD has been issued from my father's account.

But I can bet he heard it from someone else and that person heard from someone else and so on. Lots of people to misguide you in Canada for no reason at all.

Also, I made this DD from my father's account. Is that a problem? No

Basically, I had 4 fixed deposits in my name. I cancelled 3 small ones and deposited money to my account. FDD has to be in your name. If you have that then don't worry about the previous steps. You will be surprised, but many people here declare that the amount they brought at the time of landing was a gift from their father, if they were ever unfortunate enough to face an income tax audit (very rare)

This is my money and my salary documents support my earnings. I'm getting worried because at the time of applying the guidelines per CIC are that the funds should be our money. As i said above this is my money but my question is do I have to prove it again now? If the money is a gift from your father to go settle in a new country, then it is still yours.

You know I don't understand this rational. People keep saying they were not asked to show the POF, but yet they declare they have more then $10,000 on them and most even fill out form E677. Friends this is declaration that you are carrying the required amount, ie. POF. Showing POF does not always warrant the CBSA officer to ask to physically see the money in your pocket as you are already declaring it.

Spot on ! There have been a number of cases lately where we were asked to show the physical POF. Not sure why anyone would want to take a risk at that stage.

If CBSA do not ask for POF, that does not mean you should not have it. Of course you have to have it. But there is a chance they do not ask, that is all.
